What Features Does Lenovo Vantage Have
If youre still not sure what exactly Vantage can do, lets go over what it can actually do with the Lenovo Vantage app. It ranges from simple security tools to the ability to run diagnostics on any issues you may have with your device.
These different features can be useful when using Windows 10. Vantage is recommended by Lenovo, so it makes sense for you to use it.
Updating drivers & BIOS
This is probably what Vantage is most useful for. Although you can do it yourself with your Windows laptop, it is very simple with one click to update your drivers using Lenovo Vantage.
If you dont keep your drivers up to date, you may eventually run into little problems with your laptop. These are basically just small updates to the software you are using on your device, so it makes sense that this needs to be done from time to time.
You can also update your system BIOS with Vantage. Your BIOS is software that runs when your laptop starts up for the first time and helps configure all of your laptops hardware when it starts up.
Another good thing about Vantage is that it gives you access to Lenovo Migration Assistant. If you just switched to a Lenovo laptop from another computer, this makes the process really easy for you.
You dont even need to have the same brand of laptop. As long as its a Windows computer or laptop, it should be pretty straightforward to transfer. This includes all your documents, photos, and videos that were on your previous device.
Why Macs Dont Need Traditional Antivirus
Due to a combination of demographics, historical precedent, and tighter controls, Macs have historically been less vulnerable to infection than Windows computers:
- People have far fewer Macs than Windows computers: Over the past year, 17 percent of Web-browsing desktop computers ran macOS, compared with about 78 percent for all Windows versions combined, so macOS is a less lucrative target for parties making malware.
- Macs include a wider variety of useful first-party apps by default, and both macOS and downloaded apps receive updates through Apples own App Store. Windows PC owners are more accustomed to downloading both software and hardware drivers from the Internet, as well as providing permissions to third-party apps, which are more likely to be malicious.
- Newer versions of Windows must make concessions to allow apps made for older versions of Windows to run, creating a complicated set of legacy systems to secure. In contrast, macOS has seen less change since the introduction of OS X, and Apple has been less hesitant to render apps made for older versions obsolete. In fact, with the introduction of macOS Catalina in 2019, the company;rendered older 32-bit apps useless.
- Catalina also adds security features that make running malicious software difficult, including requiring apps to request a variety of permissions, such as access to files, microphones, cameras, and other services, as you install them. This makes it pretty difficult to install something you dont mean to.
Can You Get In Touch With Mcafee Customer Service
If you do need to speak to a person, there is certainly more dedicated help available. Once youve clicked through a few pages of preliminary questions about the nature of your issue, youll land on a page that gives you the option to contact one of McAfees customer service advisors via live chat. This is a service thats available 24/7.
In our testing, we found that we got through to a representative within a couple of minutes, although this may take longer during particularly busy periods. When the live chat is experiencing a high volume of requests, there will be a banner at the top of the McAfee support page warning users to expect longer wait times.
Theres also the McAfee Community forum that offers help and advice on a huge range of topics. The forums pretty active too. Simply ask a question and itll almost certainly be answered pretty quickly.
And for more basic problems, you can use McAfees Virtual Assistant to diagnose and fix technical issues. Its not the most sophisticated tool in the world, but itll help you solve simple issues.
Alternatively, if youre away from your computer, you can pay to use Techmaster, which will troubleshoot issues without you having to do much.
And if you really want to talk to someone, you can find a phone number buried away in the Contact Us section of the McAfee website.

Should I Renew Mcafee On My Computer
Kathy says she bought a new computer with McAfee antivirus, and it wants her to activate it. Should she? Leo says no way. McAfee is commonly referred to as bloatware and it’s essentially advertising on her PC. Kathy will want to go into Control Panel > Apps and Features, and uninstall any program she doesn’t want. The problem, though, is that many AVS programs like McAfee are difficult to uninstall completely. She may need to get an uninstaller from McAfee to get rid of it all. There already is an antivirus program built into Windows called Defender, and it’s a solid program. But once she gets rid of it, she’ll want to make sure she turns on Windows Defender and keeps it updated.
Does Mcafee Have A Free Version
The free antivirus software trial offers all the features of McAfee Total Protection, such as antivirus, web protection, password manager and identity protection. McAfees Virus Protection Pledge that includes our 100% Guarantee: Viruses removed or your money back, available with auto-renewal.

Something Is Always Better Than Nothing
Earlier, we asked if you need to use antivirus today. The answer was yes, and no. The no refers to the fact that you don’t have to go and find antivirus software anymore. If you’re using Windows 10, and everything is up to date, you already have a solid, free tool built in that won’t hog your system resources and will keep an eye on things in the background.
And if you’re using nothing at all, immediately go enable Windows Defender.
Sadly, you do still need antivirus software in 2020. It’s not necessarily to stop viruses anymore, but there are all kinds of miscreants out there who want nothing more than to steal and cause mayhem by getting inside your PC. It sounds scary, but because much of our lives are now conducted online, the threat is as real as ever.
Which route you take and which software you use is ultimately your decision. But don’t think it won’t happen to you. That’s precisely when it will.
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2020
The best protection at the best price
This antivirus monitors your computer in real-time to stop malicious files before they have a chance to start downloading.
The Same But Different
In terms of performance in catching malware, what matters is the malware-detection “engine,” not whether the program is free or paid. Most companies will use the same malware engine in their free and paid products, so Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition should detect malware as well as Bitdefender Total Security.
Some paid programs will be better at detecting new threats, such as a website laced with newly created malware. Paid products, with their elaborate system-behavior monitors, are more likely to pick those up and to warn you about other possible dangers. But some free programs have that kind of “heuristic” monitoring as well.
Some users have complained about seeing more false warnings from free programs. There’s a work-around for this, also free. When a suspicious file is tagged and you’re not sure if it’s safe to delete it, you can upload it to Virus Total , which will submit the suspect to scores of antivirus-engine interrogations and present you with results.
The primary differences between the free and pay products comes down to features â some of which can be extremely important â and ease of use.
Free programs generally offer no telephone technical support. This can be a deal-breaker for any small business, or a family with multiple computer users. Free programs don’t, as a rule, offer parental controls that can keep kids off inappropriate sites or warn them about cyberstalking and bullying.

What Does Mcafee Security Scan Do
McAfee Security Scan is not antivirus. Its official purpose is to analyze your defenses and tell you if your computer is vulnerable. It checks the status of your firewall, antivirus, and scans your web history and objects currently running in memory for malware. Windows performs most of these functions already, but McAfee Security Scan makes these alerts more prominent.
McAfee Security Scan is what we in the know like to call bloatware or junkware or crapware or any other number of technical-sounding terms. Its not antivirus, nor does it really protect your computer from anything. It wont even remove any malware should it find any.
Its a halfhearted pseudo-security solution thats used as an excuse to put McAfee products in front of your eyes. Really, its just a form of advertising, and a very effective one Id guess.
Is Mcafee Webadvisor Free
Yes, its free.
There are several good alternatives to McAfee SiteAdvisor, which work in a similar way but are less heavy-handed and dont patronise you with warnings saying: Whoa! Are you sure you want to go there?. The best is probably WOT , which is available for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, and protects you from scams, untrustworthy links and dodgy stores, as rated by its community. We also like Bitdefenders TrafficLight tool, which scans links for malware, trackers and phishing attacks, and forewarns you before you click them.

Is Mcafee Better Than Windows 10 Defender
McAfee received the second-best ADVANCED award in this test, due to its protection rate of 99.95% and a low false positive score of 10. So its clear from the above tests that McAfee is better than Windows Defender in terms of malware protection.
What Is A Good Alternative To Mcafee
If you have decided to uninstall McAfee from your computer, it is essential that you choose one of the best antivirus programs.
Using the internet exposes you to a multitude of threats and exploits, and it is extremely dangerous to proceed without an up-to-date antivirus that regularly scans for exploits and does real-time monitoring to prevent you from visiting malicious websites and downloading harmful files.;
So what should you replace McAfee with?
In our opinion, VIPRE Antivirus is a superb antivirus program that has everything you need to keep your devices safe. The program is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, and it is excellent at detecting and removing malware, ransomware, trojans, spyware, and viruses.
We love VIPRE Antivirus because it provides real-time scanning, a smart firewall, and it is low on system resources. This means that you can use the program to prevent infections without fear that it will make your computer come to a grinding halt.;
VIPRE is a superb alternative to McAfee in our opinion because it is effective and provides excellent value for money. So, if you want an antivirus that will give you complete peace of mind, click the link below to find out more.

Great Free Antivirus Options Can Be Added To Defender
OK, maybe you’re still not convinced. If you want an extra layer of antimalware protection, Defender makes that easier, too.
Historically, running;two antivirus programs was considered a bad idea, because of potential conflicts. Windows 10 allows you to run whatever antimalware program you choose, and optionally leave Defender in place to periodically check for threats as a secondary measure. ;
Theres a number of free antivirus solutions from which to choose, though BitDefender is a preferred choice.
Here you have a wealth of free antivirus options, from AVG to Avast to Avira and many more. BitDefender Internet Securitys free option, however, is so effective and unobtrusive that youll forget that its therewhich, really, is what you want in an antivirus program that guards your PC. It, too, is rated as a top product by AV-test and AV-comparatives, though both tested the paid versions.
Again, wed rate Windows Defender as sufficient protection for everyday use, with Windows ability to layer on additional antimalware capabilities as a security blanket.

Why You Should Use Windows Defender To Protect Your Pc
Two separate testing houses, AV-comparatives and AV-test, rank Windows Defender nearly at the top of the products both labs have tested.
Its important to note that antimalware testing is a time-intensive process. Even sites like AV-comparatives use automated tests that crawl the web and seek out malicious sites and URLs, trying to reproduce real-world scenarios that all of us would encounter in our daily work.
One key point stood out: In AV-comparatives test,;Microsoft was one of the four vendors that didnt allow any malware to take over its test systems. Vendors whose PCs ended up compromised with malware included big names, such as McAfee and Symantec.
Heres a snapshot of AV-comparatives findings:
To be fair, the AV-comparatives test showed a few weaknesses with Windows Defender. The tests revealed three user-dependent test cases, where Defender didnt immediately identify the malware, and asked the user for permission to install the file. Thats not idealusers would probably be inclined to allow the malware onto the system. Windows Defender was also unusually heavy-handed with false positives, blocking a massive 74 legitimate apps and services.
Heres a snapshot of the AV-test June 2019 roundup:
Who Should Buy A Paid Antivirus Product
Rob Schultz / IDG
Established antivirus/antimalware products from McAfee, Symantec, and others have branched out to offer VPNs, password vaults, and other security services.;
The reason why you might still want a paid antivirus and antimalware solution is if you want more services, tied up in a neat package. The leaders have moved;beyond traditional protections, offering related services such as VPNs, credit monitoring and protection, and online vaults for your passwords and other critical documents.;
While some attackers simply want to crash your system, remember that theres far more money to be made in attacks like ransomware, which encrypt your PC and then demand that you pay for the decryption key. Both Malwarebytes and BitDefender, among others, have developed free anti-ransomware solutions, which again provide a free alternative.;
Windows has its own free protections that help stop ransomware, including Windows Defender as well as protected folders that can be locked down and secured.;Nothings perfect, and no one can say for sure that a new attack wont be able to break Windows protections. But that argument applies to paid services as well.;

Mcafee Plans And Pricing
McAfee offers a range of different payment plans based on how many devices you want to protect. Unfortunately, theres no free version for desktop, although there is a basic free app version for Android and iOS.
And if youre unsure whether or not you want to sign up to McAfee, you can test run McAfees Total Protection plan on a free 30-day trial. You dont even have to put in any card details. At the end of the 30 days, youll simply lose access to the app unless you pay to keep it.
Confusingly, McAfees two security packages, Total Protection and LiveSafe, look pretty similar. McAfees own website doesnt clearly lay out the differences between them. So its not that easy to make an informed decision about which to go for. Luckily, weve done a deep dive to find out the difference between McAfee Total Protection and McAfee LiveSafe to help you decide which one is right for you.
McAfee Total Protection offers three different plans based on the number of devices you need:
- Single Device supports one device for $29.99 for the first year
- Individuals supports up to five devices for $34.99 for the first year
- Family supports up to 10 devices for $39.99 for the first year
Nowadays, when most of us use multiple devices, the Single Device plan doesnt seem all that useful. But if youve already got security built into your phone or you just want antivirus protection for a PC, this plan might be sufficient for you.
Security Baked Into Macos
Sideloading is common in Android. Weve even seen security tools that must be installed this way. Apple is much more insistent that only App Store apps can be trusted. By default, if its not from the App Store you just cant install it. Yes, you can override that setting, but you really shouldnt.
For another level of protection, a component called Gatekeeper checks every app you install for malware. Starting in macOS Catalina, Gatekeeper checks apps on every launch, not just at install time, and examines non-malicious apps for security issues. Catalina also makes apps get permission before they can access critical areas. And with Catalina, the operating system resides on a read-only drive partition, separate from all other programs.
To infect another program, a virus needs to modify that program, something thats not allowed in macOS. To steal private data, a banking Trojan needs to read memory belonging to your browser, which is likewise not allowed. In the macOS environment, apps are isolated, able to access only their own resources. And even if an app managed to break through this barrier and access another programs memory, features like ASLR mean it couldnt do much with that access.
While Macs arent as vulnerable as Windows boxes or Android devices, the old saw that Macs dont get malware is demonstrably untrue. And unlike Windows, macOS doesnt include an antivirus utility as such. If you dont have antivirus protection on your Macs, look into getting it.
