Who Performed The Refurb
Not all restorations are alike. It could be performed by the original manufacturer, but it’s possible a third party did the work and is reselling it.
In general, sticking with the original company is the smart move. They’ll have the right packaging and parts to make the product as close to new as possible. Look for “factory-certified” or similar nomenclature.
That said, you can see real savings from a third-party refurbish. Despite the fact that it’s an arena described by some as, at best, the Wild West, and there’s no real way to determine product quality until you’re already out the money. Buyer beware.
Does The Product Still Have A Warranty
Don’t buy any product, refurbed or brand new, that is advertised “as-is” because that takes away any implied warranty a product might have. The buyer risks getting a product that may not even work properly. Simply because a device starts doesn’t mean it can go online, get a signal, etc.
The reason you may see the “as-is” clause is that used products in many states get an implied warranty by law. A product has to be able to do what it was designed to do, even if sold used. If it’s a phone, it better make calls . If it’s a laptop, it better boot up and go on the internet. If it’s a webcam, it better make you look good on that Zoom meeting.
Your best bet is to ask the seller directly if a new warranty/guarantee is in place. If the device was refurbed by the original manufacturer, this may be even more likely. Without a warranty, the savings may not always be worth it. Also, confirm the length of the warranty. Six months on a device that originally had one year is not in your favor.
A Stylish Powerful Productivity Laptop
Razer is best known for its gaming laptops, but the company is making a big splash in the business and productivity space with its new Razer Book 13. At 0.6 inches thick and 3.09 pounds, the Book 13 is a portable workstation with a gorgeous and sturdy aluminum build. It features a good port selection including Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, HDMI 2.0 and a microSD slot, and its one of very few non-gaming laptops out there to come with a per-key RGB keyboard.
On the inside, this laptop is even more impressive. Its powerful chip did better than any other Windows laptop of its size on our Premiere Pro media export test. And while the Book 13 isnt a gaming laptop, it delivers some of the best gaming performance Ive ever seen from integrated graphics it can even run Shadow of the Tomb Raider over 30fps. While the Razer Book 13s high price means it wont be ideal for everyone, its still an outstanding laptop all around, combining a high-quality chassis with powerful productivity performance.

Does It Come With All The Stuff
Opening an iPhone box and not finding a charger and some earbuds is a sad experience .
Not having accessories is entirely likely with a refurbed purchase. After all, someone who returns or sells their iPhone doesn’t usually send in the earbuds, because, ew.
That’s another reason to look at refurbs mainly from the direct vendor. You’re more likely to get all the accessories in the box. That goes for things like software that might ship with a PC as well, even though thats more likely to come as a code for a download nowadays. It’s possible you could get the product in something close to the original packaging, if that’s important to you.
What’s The Difference Between A Refurbished Laptop And A Second
A refurbished, or reconditioned, laptop has usually been professionally restored by a manufacturer or retailer to the closest it can get to as new condition. Refurbished laptops often come with warranties.
The laptops we more commonly think of as ‘second-hand’ are typically used laptops sold as-is by their previous owners, and their condition will be far more variable.

Premium Gaming: Razer Blade 14
The Blade 14 is the first AMD-powered gaming laptop from Razer, coming in a slightly smaller 14-inch package compared to the larger Blade 15. It still has the same great design with slim chassis and smooth lines, as well as top-firing audio, large touchpad, and comfy RGB keyboard. Razer didn’t take the cheap road here when it comes to displays, opting for FHD with 144Hz refresh rate or QHD with 165Hz refresh rate.
As for performance hardware, all models have an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU for incredible performance on AC power. Things change on battery power, but that’s mostly a moot point for a gaming laptop since you will be plugged in most of the time. You can check out our Razer Blade 14 review for more information about performance slowdown.
In any case, Best Buy has QHD models with either an RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 Laptop GPU, capable of handling even the most intensive AAA games. Both models come with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB M.2 PCIe SSD. Take note: these are not cheap PCs and you will need a big budget to afford one. But if you do have some money to burn, it’s going to set you up nicely for the next few years of PC gaming.

What To Do Before You Sell A Laptop
To get a good price, youll need to locate everything you want to sell with it such as manuals, charging cables, a laptop bag or other accessories.
You also should make a list of any damage to the machine or problems youve noticed with the laptop. And dont forget to back up and erase all the personal data from your laptop before you pass it off to someone else.
Once everything is stored, follow the system settings to reset your laptop to factory settings and list your laptop for sale with one of these top companies. Be sure to include multiple photos to help your machine sell faster.
What Do Refurbished Laptop Grades Mean
Grades shown on refurbished laptops determine what condition the laptop is in, and what types of damage or wear and tear you can expect.
Refurbished computers typically fall into one of three categories most companies list them as A, B and C. The popular retailer Laptops Direct uses A1, A2 and A3, but these are functionally the same as A, B and C.
Grade A laptopsGrade A is normally reserved for open-box devices that have been barely used, typically because they were unwanted and returned to a retailer straight after purchase. The laptop is in visibly flawless condition, with no scuffs, scratches or marks on the outer casing. It will come in its original box and with all of its original accessories.
This is as close as you can get to buying brand new, and the cost will reflect that sometimes discounts from new prices can be less than £50.
Grade B laptopsGrade B laptops are visibly used, but any damage is purely cosmetic. This might equate to minor scratches, but nothing thats noticeable during normal everyday use. A laptop might not come with its original box or charger, but it should still come with a compatible charger. These can be 20% cheaper than a new model.

The Best Creator Laptop
The 16-inch MacBook Pro is the most powerful laptop Apple has ever made. If youre willing to pay the price , youll almost certainly be satisfied with what this machine can do.
In our benchmarks, which test a variety of creative tasks including encoding, playback, and export time, the MacBook Pro 16 did better than any laptop weve ever used the only other machines that have come close to matching this thing in some of our benchmarks are high-end desktop PCs. The battery life is also record-shattering. The 16-inch configuration with the M1 Pro processor lasted 16 hours in my testing making it the longest-lasting laptop weve ever reviewed.
Elsewhere, we have basically no complaints about the newest MacBook Pro. It has a gorgeous display that can reach 1,000 nits when playing HDR content. It pairs that with the best set of speakers weve ever heard from a laptop. If youre looking for a machine that can accommodate a demanding workload while also serving as an excellent multimedia device when youre off the clock, the MacBook Pro 16 is the best device for you.
The Best Laptop Of 2021
The late-2020 MacBook Air, powered by Apples M1 processor, is the best laptop you can buy. The base model, which includes 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, starts at $999.
Appearance-wise, this laptop has a lot in common with the Intel-powered MacBook Air that Apple released earlier this year, including the same 2560 x 1600 screen, Touch ID, 720p webcam, fingerprint sensor, and scissor-switch keyboard.
But the new processor is the star of the show here its fast. In our testing, it handled intense photo- and video-editing workloads better than almost any Intel-powered laptop weve tried this year. It was also able to run Shadow of the Tomb Raider at close-to-playable frame rates, which is quite a feat for integrated graphics. At launch, these apps hadnt yet been optimized for the M1 processor and were running through Apples Rosetta 2 translation layer but they still worked fine.
And the processing power didnt even weigh down the battery life: we got between eight and 10 hours of sustained work.
Another benefit of the M1 processor is that it enables the MacBook Air to run iPhone and iPad apps natively on macOS. As of this writing, there still isnt a huge selection of mobile apps available, and some that have been released arent quite optimized for the laptop screen. Still, its a benefit we can look forward to as time goes on.
The MacBook Pro is an excellent laptop for video editing and intensive work.

Things To Know Before You Buy Refurbished Electronics
Buying a refurbished device can help you save money, but dont go into it blind. These tips will help you get a deal and avoid being ripped off when buying refurbished laptops, TVs, phones, and other electronics.
There’s a simple reason to buy refurbished tech instead of a brand new devicesaving money. It’s also nice to avoid sending a gadget to the landfill. And there’s the added bonus this holiday season: Brand new products are in short supply due to ongoing issues with the supply chain and distributing goods to stores is getting more and more difficult. Plus, there’s the continued worldwide processor shortage. If you go for a refurbished product, it won’t be subject to shipping delays, because it’s already there to buy.
The problem is that refurbed products likely had a life before they came to you. Maybe it was a short existence that brought few tribulations with the original owner, but maybe not. It was enough of a life that the product was sent back and given an overhaul to make it workable again, or at least a once-over to make sure it still delivers. That all happened under the original product warrantya warranty you may not receive when giving that product a second chance.
You may also have to forego the original accessories and deal with a few physical imperfections.

Is It A Refurb Or Open
A typical open-box product is one that was purchased and opened, but returned before it was ever used. Maybe the buyer or recipient didn’t want it, or maybe the packaging was damaged so it was returned as a precaution, even though the contents worked fine.
Technically, I’d argue that to be a true refurb, a device needs some kind of repair, cleaning, or sprucing up. Legally, there’s no real definition of “refurbished. It can signify whatever a vendor or seller wants it to mean. You may also see terms like “pre-owned” and “reconditioned,” which are synonyms…until they’re not. All returned products that get resold again tend to get lumped together, no matter the condition.
Thankfully, there are laws in place in the US that prevent companies from selling returned products as if they’re brand new. You can benefit from that. Because once the “stink” of refurbishment is on a product, the price should go way down.
Ask the seller about a products origin and hope for an open-box product you may not be the first owner, but you could be the first user.
