Pc Booster #: Switch To A Solid
One of the best ways to rejuvenate any laptop or PC is to install a solid-state drive. SSDs work on everything from old Lenovo ThinkPad laptops to dusty old Dell PCs, and the results are always worthwhile. Boot times are faster, read/write actions speed up dramatically, and even the most frugal processors feel alive with an SSD working alongside them.
Because there are no moving parts in SSDs, the read/write speeds are far superior to older optical hard-disk drives Buying one wont break the bank, but you might have to compromise a little on storage space, as SSDs still cost more per GB than mechanical hard disks.
Before you worry about finding your old Windows disks for your new drive, its easy enough to clone the current HDD onto a new SSD. Download a third-party OS cloning tool and copy your older drive, sector-by-sector. Just be sure that the cloning application converts the boot sector to SSD, or the OS wont launch. Programs like EaseUS Todo Backup establish a proper SSD boot sector, so you dont have to deal with boot repairs later.
Turn Off Search Indexing
Windows 10 indexes your hard disk in the background, allowing you in theory to search your PC more quickly than if no indexing were being done. But slower PCs that use indexing can see a performance hit, and you can give them a speed boost by turning off indexing. Even if you have an SSD disk, turning off indexing can improve your speed, because the constant writing to disk that indexing does can eventually slow down SSDs.
To get the maximum benefit in Windows 10, you need to turn indexing off completely. To do so, type services.msc in the Windows 10 search box and press Enter. The Services app appears. Scroll down to either Indexing Service or Windows Search in the list of services. Double-click it, and from the screen that appears, click Stop. Then reboot your machine. Your searches may be slightly slower, although you may not notice the difference. But you should get an overall performance boost.
Heres how to turn off Windows 10 indexing.
If youd like, you can turn off indexing only for files in certain locations. To do this, type index in the Windows 10 search box and click the Indexing Options result that appears. The Indexing Options page of the Control Panel appears. Click the Modify button, and youll see a list of locations that are being indexed, such as Microsoft Outlook, your personal files, and so on. Uncheck the box next to any location, and it will no longer be indexed.
What Makes A Computer Fast Cpu
CPU or Central Process Unit is the brain of a computer. It is a small computer chip that sits atop the main circuit board of a computer or a laptop. The clock speed of the computer and the speed of processing data are managed by the CPU of a computer. If the CPU is able to execute more instructions per second, the speed of the computer will become faster. In general, the higher the bit of the CPU is, the faster the CPU performs calculation.
Another aspect you need to know is the CPU cache and it usually lists L2, L3 and L4. This is the super-fast memory that makes the CPU process a more complex task.
So, in order to improve the speed of a computer, the CPU would be an important aspect.

Restore Your Pc From A System Restore Point
Restoring your PC undoes recent changes that might be causing problems. If you think a recently installed app, driver, or update for Windows could be causing problems, you might get things running normally again by restoring your PC to an earlier point, called a restore point.
Restoring from a restore point wont affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates that were installed after the restore point was created.
System restore works for changes made in the last 7 to 14 days.
To restore your PC from a restore point
In the search box on the taskbar, type restore point, then select Create a restore point from the list of results.
On the System Protection tab, select System Restore.
Select Next, then choose the restore point related to the app, driver, or update that might be causing the problem. Then select Next> Finish.
Restart your PC and see if performance has improved.
If you dont see any restore points, it might be because system protection isnt turned on.
To turn on system protection
In the search box on the taskbar, type restore point, then select Create a restore point from the list of results.
On the System Protection tab, select Configure.
Select Turn on system protection> OK.

Disable Startup Programs On Windows 10
The startup-program manager should be easier to understand than other startup program managers. Youll see the name of a program along with its application icon at the left, and the programs publisher name to the right of that.
Youll also see the Startup impact of each startup program either Low, Medium, or High. If you see Not measured, thats because it was recently added and Windows hasnt had a chance to observe the programs behavior yet. Reboot your computer and youll see an impact appear.
To disable a program, click it and click the Disable button or right-click it and click Disable.
The real challenge here is deciding what to disable. Some programs are obvious for example, if you have Dropbox or Google Drive installed, they normally start when your computer starts up so they can sync files. You could disable them, but then they wouldnt automatically sync files in the background. You could disable a chat program like Skype here, but then you wouldnt be automatically logged in when you boot your computer.
Other programs will be less obvious, especially system utilities and driver-related software that came with your computer. Much of this manufacturer-installed junkware is unnecessary, but you may want to do a bit of quick research so you understand what youre disabling.

Turn Off Tips And Notifications
It may seem odd for a tips article to tell you to turn off Windows 10’s Tips feature, but it can reduce processing that Windows needs to do to display relevant tips for your system. The same can be said for Notifications. If Windows doesn’t need to generate a notification, your computing will go faster. I have over 40 apps that are capable of sending notifications. Simply open the Settings app’s Notifications & actions page to change the notification settings. You’ll see a list of individual apps that can send notifications, and you can uncheck those you don’t want to hear from. If you have a lot of these, too, go through the list and you’re bound to find sources from which you have no need to be notified. The distraction savings alone can speed up your PC use, if only in terms of your perception of computing speed. An easy way to pause notifications is to tap the Focus Assist button in the Action Center. This also makes it easier to re-enable them later.

Add More Ram To Your Computer
RAM is temporary storage memory used by your PC to run programs. The more programs you use, the more RAM you need and if you dont have enough, your computer will slow down. You can easily add more RAM by buying an extra memory stick, but you can also replace or buy a completely new RAM if necessary.

Should You Defrag Your Hard Drive
Traditionally, when a PC saved a large file to the hard drive, it would break it into smaller pieces and store them across several locations. As these files accumulated, the hard drive would take longer to access them. This gave rise to ‘defragging’ software, which would, effectively, put the files back together in a more logical order, giving your PC a speed boost.
However, with the advent of Windows 10 , it simply isn’t necessary to run defragging software on your computer. Windows handles data much more intelligently these days. Mac users shouldn’t need to defrag at all.
If you’re still running Windows 7 , you may get a small speed boost by defragging your hard drive.
If you have a solid-state drive this process won’t be necessary, as Windows will automatically do it for you from time to time in the background. It’s widely recommended that you don’t defrag an SSD yourself.
Turn Windows Features On Or Off
While youre in the Programs and Features screen, you might want to check to see if there are any Windows components you dont need. Click Turn Windows features on or off and youll see a list of these components.
Youll want to be careful you dont turn off anything you actually need. So again, a search for anything youre unsure about is a good idea.

Defrag Your Hard Disk
Old mechanical hard drives can often suffer from fragmentation. This happens when the various bits that make up a complete file are scattered across the physical surface of the drive platter. Because the drive head has to travel further across the surface of the disk to read all the separate portions, this slows the machine down. Defragmentation – or defragging – restructures the disk so that all of the bits that make up various files are grouped in the same physical area, which hopefully increases the speed of hard drive access at the same time. Note, however, that because solid-state drives do not use spinning-platter disks, they are immune to fragmentation.
Its easy to check whether a physical disk needs defragging simply head to the storage tab in Windows 10s system settings menu, and click the option labelled Optimise drives. This will open the optimisation wizard, which allows you to analyse all of your machines drives individually and presents you with a percentage showing how fragmented each one is. From there, you can defrag the drive, which should result in more stability and faster performance.
