Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Gen 3
Lenovo’s new ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 will be available from May 2022, with a starting price of $1,399. The 17-inch laptop aims to impress, as it’s powered by 12th Gen Intel Core H-Series processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 32GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 2TB for storage.
The ThinkBook Plus is equipped with a 17.3-inch primary display, with an impressive 21:10 ultra-wide aspect ratio with 3072×1440 resolution at 120Hz. You can also expect up to 400 nits of brightness and a 90% screen-to-body ratio with Dolby Vision support and low blue light with TÜV Rheinland EyeSafe certification.
The true star of the show is the secondary display placed on the base panel. This 8-inch second LCD touch glass display with 800×1280 resolution can be used in a number of ways, including being a chat window, notepad, drawing board to draw or edit images, calculator, and can even mirror smartphones. Plus, it sports a Magic Launcher that can place frequently used application icons on the second display for quick access. Now that’s handy.
In terms of ports, the ThinkBook features one Thunderbolt 4 port, one USB-C with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4 support, two USB-A ports, one HDMI output and an audio jack. Lenovo’s ThinkBook laptops are some of the company’s best, including the Lenovo ThinkBook 13x and Lenovo ThinkBook Plus G2 ITG. Lenovo Yoga 9i: Security
I didn’t expect Lenovo to short change us in the security category given the ThinkPad series’ prowess. So I was surprised to discover that the Yoga 9i still lacks an IR camera, a useful feature found on both the Spectre x360 and XPS 13 2-in-1.
Instead, I had to use the fingerprint sensor located on the deck. It worked reliably, but lifting your finger requires that extra bit of effort you don’t need when using an IR camera. While you’re stuck with a standard 720p webcam there is at least a slider you can move over to block the lens when it’s not in use

What Are The Most Important Things To Look For In A Laptop
Depending on your intended usage, you’ll want to keep an eye on a certain set of technical specs to ensure that the laptop will fit your needs without costing you lots of extra money for components you’ll never use.
Heavy-duty gamers and creative professionals should seek high-end GPU and CPU, as well as RAM upwards of 16GB. This will ensure that your software will run smoothly and you’ll get to appreciate every detail of your work or play.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, users who just need a simple laptop for mostly web-based tasks can get away with a lower-spec processor and graphics card, and 4GB of RAM should do just fine. If this sounds like you, trust that there’s no need to splurge on higher tech specs. A more affordable Lenovo laptop will still offer great quality without being overkill for your needs . But, if youre looking for more options, the best cheap laptops on the market today run the gamut across all the laptop brands, not just Lenovo.
Another aspect you may want to consider when choosing your laptop is less about what’s on the inside, and more about how it can connect to things on the outside. The availability of ports on a laptop is key if you plan to plug in thumb drives, a mouse, a microphone, or even an SD card for easy transfer of media files.

Both models will be available from April 2022, with the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+ i starting at $839 and the ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ i is priced from $859.Along with the 12th Gen Intel Core, expect up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 GPU, up to 32GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 2TB for storage. The 14-inch model can come equipped with a 2.8K IPS 16:10 display with 400 nits of brightness, 90Hz refresh rate, and 100% sRGB color gamut, while the 16-inch model can sport a 2.5K IPS 16:10 display, 350 nits of brightness, 120Hz and 100% sRGB color gamut coverage. How To Choose The Best Thinkpad For You
Choosing the best ThinkPad for you really depends on your needs. If youre looking for a vanilla clamshell laptop, youre more than likely to find everything you want in the Thinkpad X1 Carbon. However, if youre looking for something more flexible, then the ThinkPad X1 Yoga is the next best bet.
Artists might want to check out the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, while users who need their laptop to have a little more kick, whether it be for video editing or photo editing, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is a great choice. If you want to go beyond that, the most powerful ThinkPad you can buy is the Lenovo ThinkPad P1, which is great for all kinds of high taxing work. If you want to prioritize battery life, you could probably find the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 still on sale, but keep in mind that its a little old, using an 8th Gen Intel CPU.

Best overall ThinkPad you can buy
Reasons to avoid
Pros: Lenovo took the best business laptop and beefed it up with 11th Gen Intel CPUs. You still get the ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s attractive, slim and durable chassis. Business users who travel frequently will appreciate the 15+ hours of battery life offered by the 1200p version. The 1200p screen was surprisingly bright. And in typical ThinkPad fashion, the latest 9th Gen X1 Carbon has a best-in-class keyboard that you’ll love typing on. It’s easily at the top of the best ThinkPads.
Cons: While we adore this laptop, it’s not truly perfect. It features a poor 720p webcam, no card slot and the touchpad is a bit small. On top of that, the IR camera doesn’t even come included by default, which is odd considering it’s a business notebook.
Reasons to avoid
Pros: Your average ThinkPad isn’t very wallet-friendly, but the ThinkPad X13 goes against the grain. For less than $1,000, this machine offers a speedy AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U CPU, a carbon fiber/magnesium alloy design and even a select few security features like a fingerprint reader and an optional IR camera for Windows Hello. Despite the price, Lenovo doesn’t skimp on the keyboard. Its keys felt super responsive. Those concave keys we’ve praised for years have what feels like an impossible amount of travel for a laptop this thin.

Are Lenovo Laptops Good For Gaming
Lenovo was a little late to the game, only debuting its line of laptops specifically dedicated to gaming in 2017. Previously, Lenovo’s gaming laptops fell into the IdeaPad line, but it wasn’t easy for consumers to tell which laptops were actually made for gaming. Thus, the Legion family was born to differentiate these powerful behemoths from the standard, everyday laptop for general users.
You can build your own Lenovo Legion with top specifications to create a truly mighty laptop, including an insanely powerful Intel Core i9 processor, a top-tier Nvidia GeForce graphics card, and an intense amount of storage space well above 1TB. This will allow you to play the most demanding video games on the market at their highest settings. This type of premium laptop build will come at a premium price, of course, so you can certainly step down the tech specs a little for a better price with little compromise in performance.
Despite their intense power and outstanding performance, picky gamers might be disappointed to find that Legion gaming laptops aren’t necessarily as sleek and attractive on the outside as some other brands, so you may want to consider the best gaming laptops from a variety of different brands to find the one that looks as good outside as it functions inside.
How We Test Lenovo Laptops
We put each Lenovo laptop through extensive benchmark testing both synthetic and real-world before they end up in the hands of our reviewers. We evaluate each aspect of the laptop, including its performance, battery life, display, speakers and heat management.
In our benchmark testing, we use a Klein K10 colorimeter to detect the brightness and sRGB color gamut of the laptop’s display. For performance testing, we run the laptop through a gauntlet of benchmarks, including Geekbench 5.0 and 3DMark professional graphics tests.
To determine real-world performance, we task the laptop to convert a 4K video to 1080p resolution and to duplicate a 25GB multimedia file. Our real-world graphics test is the Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Gathering Storm benchmark with medium settings at 1080p resolution.
We also run heat tests by playing a 15-minute full-screen video and measuring temperatures in different areas of the laptop. Last but not least, our battery test consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. For MacBooks and premium Windows 10 laptops, a runtime of over 9 hours is considered a good result whereas gaming laptops and workstations that can stay powered for longer than 5 hours deserve praise.
These tests are complemented with extensive hands-on testing from our reviewers who critique everything from the laptop’s materials to the feel of its touchpad.

You certainly can. The next fleet of Chromebooks offers a slight jump in price due to their processing power and higher-end features. If youre new to Chrome OS, still need some oomph, and dont want to spend more than $500, check out Chromebooks like Lenovos standout Chromebook Flex Series.

Lenovo Yoga 9i: Ports
There isn’t much room for ports on the Yoga 9i.
To its credit, there’s a USB 3.2 Type-A port alongside dual Thunderbolt 4 inputs and a headphone/mic jack on the left side. I’d prefer those USB-C inputs to be split among each side of the laptop so you could charge from either end.
I do, however, appreciate the power button on the right side, making it easy to turn the Yoga 9i on/off when docked or in tablet mode.

The Lenovo Thinkpad P16 Is A Redesigned Beast
Lenovos ThinkPad P-series is for mobile workstations, and these are as powerful as it gets. The ThinkPad P16 is a new entry to the series, replacing the P15 and P17, and packing an all-new design.
Lenovo ThinkPad P16
Its made entirely out of aluminum, and it has a red accent around the back. When I first saw it, the most surprising thing was the ThinkPad branding.
Our customers have spoken, and its clear that they want the best of both worlds a mobile workstation with top-of-theline performance in a portable system that looks as good as it performs, said Rob Herman, Vice President, Workstation and Client AI Business Unit, Lenovo. The elevated external appearance of the new ThinkPad P16 better aligns with the extreme power found inside for a complete package delivering the technology and sophistication to tackle even the most compute-intensive workflows, whether at home, on the road or in the office.
XDA VIDEO OF THE DAY
Along with the new design, theres a 16-inch 16:10, which is even offered in 3,840×1,200 OLED touch. Of course, if youre looking for the best battery life, theres a 1,920×1,200 panel.
Lenovo ThinkPad P16
For performance, its got Intels brand new 55W 12th-gen HX-series CPU, which are as close to desktop-class performance as you can get. For graphics, you can get it with up to an NVIDIA RTX A5500 with 16GB memory.

The bread-and-butter ThinkPads, though, are the T series, widely deployed business laptops that deliver a good balance of cost, durability, and feature set, along with the famous ThinkPad keyboard. Current T-series models include 14- and 15.6-inch notebooks, some with an “s” suffix after their model numbers to indicate a slimmer and lighter system. You may also see models with a small “g” at the end or a “p” for “professional,” an upper-echelon model with better specs.
Beyond L, P, T, and X, Lenovo has also pushed another, newer line: E. The E series is more of a hodgepodge than most, resolutely budget-minded, with CPUs from both Intel and AMD and models in both 14- and 15.6-inch screen sizes. Meanwhile, Lenovo ThinkBooks are a distinct line from ThinkPads. They serve small and medium business customers and also lean toward the value end of the spectrum. The ThinkBook line has grown in 2021, now coming in 13-, 14-, and 15-inch versions in slim and normal-thickness variants.

Lenovo Yoga 9i: Performance
Not only is the Yoga 9i equipped with the latest 11th Gen Intel Core chips, but it flaunts the top-tier Core i7-1185G7 CPU, giving it a slight performance edge over those with the Core i7-1165G7 processor. Paired with 16GB of RAM, the CPU blazed through my rigorous real-world testing, pulling up 30 Chrome tabs like a wrestler carrying a down pillow. Some of those tabs played 1080p videos, a few played Twitch streams and on another, and at some point, I got lost in a Key and Peele sketch rabbit hole.
Overall, the Yoga 9i did a great job in our performance benchmarks, keeping pace and surpassing most of its rivals. It notched a 5,312 in the Geekbench 5.3 overall performance test, edging out the Spectre x360 14 and crushing the average while falling surprisingly short of the XPS 13 2-in-1 . The MacBook Air with M1 continues to bat in a different league on this test.
The Lenovo needed 14 minutes and 24 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p resolution using the Handbrake app. That tops the competition, outpacing the XPS 13 2-in-1 , Spectre x360 14 , the MacBook Air using an emulated Handbrake app, and the category average . However, the Air needed only 9:15 when using the native Handbrake beta.
SSDs are getting speedier but the Yoga 9i’s 512GB of storage kept pace with the best, duplicating 25GB of multimedia files at a rate of 692.25 megabytes per second. That crushes the XPS 13 2-in-1 , the Spectre x360 14 and the average .
Lenovo Thinkpad P17 Mobile Workstation Review: Only Professionals Should Apply
Earlier this summer, Lenovo updated its mobile workstation lineup with the Lenovo ThinkPad P17 and P15 notebooks. Lenovo launched the ThinkPad P17 as its largest mobile workstation focused on durability and packed full of high-performance hardware to create a no-compromise solution. Every company talk about a desktop replacement, but this design tries to replace a real workstation. This system is built with professional creators and engineers in mind and will run complex programs like AutoCAD, Creo, 3dsMax, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, and many other rigorous ISV applications.
For the past week, I have been using the Lenovo ThinkPad P17 mobile workstation as my primary productivity device. Lenovo sent me a high-end configuration of the system to test, and I ran it through my typical productivity workloads and some content creation simulations and benchmarks. I will preface my review by saying I doubt my ability to stress this system to its absolute limits as my workloads are more conducive to a 15″ ultrathin or creator notebook, but it doesn’t mean I didnt attempt to.
Lenovo ThinkPad P17
Initial impressions and design
Immediately, I notice that the number of ports and I/O on this mobile workstation is impressive. The ThinkPad P17 has 3 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 3, an SD-card reader, micro-SD reader, ethernet jack, Kensington lock slot, HDMI port, and a headphone jack. Lenovo left nothing to be desired in terms of ports and I/O.
