After a Microsoft update, the printer settings for my 8020 no longer work. Some pieces work but HP Smart fails after I select my printer model in setup. Setup doesn’t complete and I get a “we’re sorry, something went wrong. Can’t load HP Smart”.
The wireless network is fine
I can still print from my cell phone.
Printer setup doesn’t complete and I get the error message each time

HP Smart app will not be listed under programs as it is just an app.

How To Add A Wired Printer In Windows 10
1. If you have a wired printer, connect it to your PC by inserting its USB cord into one of your computer ports before turning the printer on. If your printer is wireless, make sure that it’s connected to the same network as your computer for more information on this, check your specific printer’s manual.

Add A Wireless Printer
The steps to install a wireless printer may vary by manufacturer. In general, however, modern printers today will detect your network and automate the installation.
1. Use the printer’s LCD or touchscreen panel to enter the wireless setup. On my Epson printer this is under Setup > Wireless LAN Settings.
2. Select your Wi-Fi network. You’ll need to know your home network’s SSID, which you can find by hovering your mouse over the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar.
3. Enter your network password.
In some cases, you might need to temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB to install software. But otherwise, that’s it. You should find your printer automatically added in the Printers & scanners section under Settings > Devices.
If you run into trouble, make sure your printer is relatively close to your computer and not too far from your wireless router. If your printer has an Ethernet jack, you could also connect it directly to your router and manage it with a browser interface.

I upgraded my Xfinity platform and got the new router.
ALMOST EVERY device on the network reconnected to the new router
EXCEPT that I now have two problems — and the issue is, with 100% certainty, related to the router.
One laptop refuses to see the wifi network. It sees EVERY OTHER network around – but i won’t even show my xfinity home network as an option. It connects just fine with a hardline cable to the router or to the hub – just no via wifi
In the same vein, but different path — my HP Printers can not be seen by any other device on the network ever since the upgrade. The printers connect, ask for the password, and authenticate However, no printer discovery tool can see them. All computers which had a connection before show the printers as offline. Any new computer can’t even add them as a printer, since they don’t exist, as far as that computer can tell.
I tired removing the printer and re-adding – no luck

I tried rebooting the router and the computers and the printers – no luck
I can connect to the printer using wifi-direct — so I know the issue is not in the comptuer or the printer — but that is not a reasonable option, since using wifi direct means I lose my normal network connection on the computer.

Looking For Password Managers
When following a printer’s set-up guide, you might run into the following terms.
Driver
A printer driver is a piece of background software that teaches your device how to use it. Without the driver, your PC, tablet or phone won’t know how to ‘drive’ the printer.
When first connecting to a printer, your computer, tablet or phone should automatically download and install or update the drivers, so an internet connection might be needed during set-up. However, Windows has some up-to-date printer drivers pre-installed, so you might be able to skip this step. And Apple’s AirPrint technology side-steps the need for drivers.

Network key

SSID
Your Service Set Identifier is the name of your home network and Wi-Fi connection.
If you never changed your router’s SSID, it’ll be printed on a sticker, usually on the bottom of the route.
Wireless connection
This is a vague term that can refer to any wire-free connection technology. For printers, it usually means Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or both.
