Casting With An Hdmi Cable
Connecting a laptop to a TV using an HDMI cable connection is both reliable and simple. If your laptop has an HDMI port, then its as simple as plugging the cable into your laptop and an open HDMI port on your TV. Then you just need to switch the TV input source to the correct HDMI input.
Some laptops dont have a standard HDMI port. In fact, many newer laptops dont. In this case, to use a wired connection, you will need an HDMI adapter that is compatible with the port on your laptop. To begin casting, plug the adapter into your laptops port, then connect the HDMI cable both to the HDMI adapter on your laptop and to the TV.
Connect Using An External Cable
You can use an external cable to connect a desktop or laptop computer to your TV in order to display your computer onto the TV. Cable connections vary based on the computer output and TV input requirements.
You’ll need to identify the correct cable connections or adapters needed for your computer and TV configuration. If you don’t know your connection types, refer to your computer or TV manuals, or contact the device manufacturer for more information.
Most newer TVs will use HDMI connections.
Most newer Apple computers will use a Type C or a Thunderbolt connection.
Most newer PC computers will use a Display Port or HDMI connection.
When using compatible connections to watch Netflix, you may notice a difference in how streamed and downloaded titles display.
How To Cast A Browser Tab
To cast a tab, select Cast tab and then click your Chromecast in the list. If you dont select any source, your Chromecast will automatically start casting the tab by default.
It should be automatically detected if its online. If it doesnt appear in the list, be sure its online. For example, you may need to turn on your TV if youre powering your Chromecast through your TVs USB port.
When casting a tab, youll see a blue Cast icon to the left of the X on the browser tab.
To adjust the volume or stop casting the tab, right-click the page and select Cast or click the menu button and select Cast. The Cast dialog will reappear, providing a volume control and a Stop button that stops casting.
You can close this dialog if you like by clicking the X, which will hide it. Chrome will only stop casting if you close the tab or click the Stop button.

There Is No Picture When I Connect My Laptop To My Tv Over Hdmi
When you connect your PC to a TV, you shouldn’t need to change any settings on the PC for the picture to display on the TV. However, if it’s not displaying correctly, first check the HDMI connection itself, then try the following:
Press Windows Key + P. You should see a sidebar pop up with various display options: Laptop Screen Only Duplicate Extend and Second Screen Only. We recommend using Duplicate or Second Screen Only.
If this doesn’t solve your problem, right-click the Windows 10 desktop and choose Display Settings.
If you don’t see two displays , your laptop has not detected the TV. This could suggest the HDMI connection itself is at fault, so check it is inserted correctly, and potentially try using a different cable or a different port.
When you do see the second screen appear in Display Settings, scroll down to Multiple Display options. In this menu you can choose whether to mirror your laptop screen, extend these displays or show only on the TV .

How Wireless Video Hdmi Kits Work
Wireless Video HDMI kits often include a transmitter that connects to your laptop and a receiver that plugs into the TV. Some also include a power adapter, others use power from the device theyre connected to. Once the transmitter and receiver are connected, they instantly establish a wireless connection without Wi-Fi, cables, or additional set-up steps. Because wireless video HDMI uses a direct connection, you can count on a stable, low-latency and high-quality connection.
Just For Games: Steam Link
Valve released the Steam Link a few years ago, and while it didn’t make many waves, we were impressed by its performance. It was a media streamer designed specifically for PC games. You connected it to your TV, paired a controller with it, and you could play games on your computer through it. Your PC handled all of the graphical processing, and the Steam Link managed the audio/video and input data. It was surprisingly responsive if you had a very good wireless connection, or even better, could connect at least one of the two devices in the chain to your router over Ethernet.
The Steam Link as a device has been discontinued, but Valve has released apps that do the same job with software on a variety of devices. You can install Steam Link on Android TVs, Apple TVs, and Samsung TVs, or even on a Raspberry Pi if you want to build your own Steam Link box.
Steam Link is specifically designed for games, so you’re not going to be able to do much general media streaming or screen mirroring with it. In fact, since it depends on Steam’s Big Picture mode for an interface, you can’t actually access any content not directly available on Steam. It isn’t a solution if you just want to watch movies and TV shows . You can work through your PC’s desktop by minimizing Big Picture mode through Steam Link, but it’s an awkward, unreliable solution.
Pros: Low latency for PC gaming.
Cons: Not suitable for streaming non-PC game content.

Screen Mirroring Vs Casting
As technology becomes more advanced, so does the vocabulary associated with it. We all now frequently use terms like screen mirroring or casting and it gets really confusing. What do they all mean? All you really need to know is that both allow you to stream videos, photos, and other content from your phone to your smart TV. But if you want a more in-depth definition, we have it for you right here.
What is screen mirroring?
The answer is in the name: screen mirroring. This feature lets you mirror whats on your phones screen to a bigger screen, like a smart TV. Exactly whats showing on your phone will appear on the TV, whether its a video, a photo, or a Settings menu. Whenever you do something on your phone , that action will also be shown on the other screen.
On Galaxy devices the screen mirroring feature is called Smart View. You can easily mirror your screen with Smart View by just tapping the Smart View icon and doing a few simple steps.
For iPhones, the screen mirroring feature is called AirPlay, and it does the same exact thing – mirror images, videos, or other media. Using AirPlay is similar but a little different from using Smart View.
No matter which one you have, it’s a great way to share videos, photos, or other things on your phone right on your smart TV.

Adding A Powerdvd Channel To Roku
If you have a Roku casting device, you can stream PowerDVD media to your TV using the above steps. However, before you can stream via Roku, you must first add the PowerDVD channel to your Roku interface.

Connect Laptop To Tv: Windows 10
If you’ve got a Windows 10 laptop and a compatible TV, one of the easiest ways to transmit your laptop screen to your TV is to use the new screen-casting capabilities that are built into the Windows 10 interface. Just go to the Action Center and click Connect. Your laptop will scan for and give you options to connect to any nearby Miracast-enabled device.
The beauty of technologies such as Miracast is that they don’t rely on your home/office wireless network. Instead, signals are transmitted via Wi-Fi Direct, which has a shorter signal range but enables device-to-device streaming without a central router.
The newer your TV, the more likely it is to already be Miracast-compatible, eliminating the need for extra hardware or adapters. Windows 10 systems can connect to older TVs, too. You just need to add one of the relatively low cost, set-top streaming units available from Roku, Amazon, or others, many of which include Miracast options .

Plenty of gadgets are able to act as a bridge between your computer and your TV, allowing you to ‘cast’ content from one to the other. You may also hear the term ‘screen mirroring’ used, though technically the two are slightly different, with one streaming content from within an app and the other replicating your laptop’s screen.
Because there are so many technologies and terminologies in use out there, including Wireless Display, Wi-Fi Direct and Miracast, which may be supported by none, one or both of your devices, it may pay to keep things simple.
We like the Roku Express . It’s a cheap media streamer that plugs into your TV over HDMI and allows you to install apps for various catch-up TV services and movie-subscription services. It also allows you to cast from a compatible device in much the same way as the £30 , but with the addition of a user-friendly interface.
If you don’t need a media streaming box – perhaps you already have a smart TV and don’t need to add apps – there are also solutions that are no more than wireless HDMI dongles, such as this . It’s no different to connecting the two using an HDMI cable, except that the cable is replaced with a wireless system.
