Microsoft Windows is the world’s most popular operating system for laptops and desktops. That’s why most Dell computers ship with Windows operating system .

Unfortunately, iMovie is created for Mac exclusive by Apple Inc. Apple wants people buy their MacBook or iMac because of their high-quality software including iMovie. So iMovie is only and will only be compatible with Mac and iOS .

That’s to say, downloading iMovie for Dell computers is impossible unless you installed a hacked Mac on your Dell computer . Therefore, if you want to edit videos on a Dell laptop, you have to find an iMovie alternative for Dell.

Here we highly recommend Movavi Video Editor, which looks like iMovie and most important it works like iMovie. It includes all common video editing tools in iMovie as well as a similar timeline. For advanced tools like green screen, picture-in-picture, slow motion, filters, transitions, and animated titles, you can easily find them and use them for making your movies. Better than iMovie, Movavi Video Editor works on either Windows and Mac. Get a free trial now.

System Requirements You Are Going To Need For Video Editing

The performance your computer is capable of can severely limit the range of video editing software options you have at your disposal. All professional video editing suites, such as Final Cut and Adobe Premiere have a demanding list of technical requirements your computer has to meet if you want to use them to edit your videos.

1. Windows PC or Mac?

Image from Internet

Desktop configurations for PC computers have gotten more powerful over the years, but Mac computers are still a much better option for video editing because the Mac OS is optimized to enhance the performance of the computer’s hardware components. The 2017 Mac Pro, while expensive, is one of the top choices for a video editing computer.

However, these differences matter only to professional video editors who work on demanding projects. Inexperienced video editors can use PC and Mac computers, equally effectively to edit their videos. If the software of your choice has a demanding list of tech specs, you’ll just have to make sure that your device meets each and every one of them.

2. CPU capabilities

3. RAM Memory

4. Hard drive space

5. The graphics card

6. Monitor:

  • Open the Windows 10 Photos app.
  • Click the New Video button in the top right-hand corner, and then choose New Video Project.

The XPS 15s screen is a pleasure to work onits taller than the screens in most other laptops, which gives your apps more space to spread out. The laptop performs well, its battery life is excellent, and its keyboard and trackpad are pretty good. But we wish it had a greater variety of ports.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Weight:
    Storage: 512 GB SSD

The Dell XPS 15 9500s screen is its best feature. Its taller than most of the other screens in the laptops we tested, with a 3840×2400 resolution and a 16:10 ratio that gives your apps more room to spread out. Six- and eight-core Intel processors provide a good amount of speed for encoding video and other CPU-intensive tasks, while the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics hardware offers enough power for running professional 3D apps, enjoying some light gaming, and connecting to multiple high-resolution external monitors. Its keyboard and trackpad feel nice to use, and its battery lasted longer than others we tested with similar specs. The downsides are that its heavier than some of its competitorsthe 4K version weighs 4.5 pounds, a bit more than anything else we tested this time aroundand that its limited to only Thunderbolt 3 and USB Type-C ports. The laptop does include a card reader, and it comes with a USB Type-A/HDMI dongle, but we would have liked to see some USB Type-A and HDMI ports built in.

Which LAPTOP for VIDEO EDITING? – Dell XPS 15

The best laptops for video editing are pricey. Were not going to dance around it. Video editing requires a huge amount of power, and power doesnt come cheap. You can very easily spend upwards of $3,000 on a video-editing laptop. But not everybody has that kind of cash, and, luckily, that doesnt mean that those with smaller budgets are left out in the cold.

Youve got essentially two options for more budget-minded video editing laptops. One route would be to find a less expensive gaming PC, like Dells G15, and carefully max out the elements that are most important to video editing, namely the RAM and GPU. Youll likely be making sacrifices elsewhere, though, like in the build quality, screen quality, or storage.

Instead, we like the new Apple MacBooks, especially the MacBook Air. Youll get the remarkably fast custom-made Apple M1 processor, which has proven very, very fast at video editing, as well as other intensive tasks like gaming. And going for the Air is a great way to save a few bucks after all, youre getting the exact same processor and GPU in the Air as you would in the new iMac and MacBook Pro. One suggestion: get 16 GB of memory. It costs a bit more, but its worth it.

The Key Engines Of Editing: Cpu And Memory

The two most important laptop components for video editors are the CPU and memory. Most applications are optimized to take advantage of modern multi-core CPUs, which usually means that the more cores you have, the better. Multithreading, which enables each core to handle two processing threads simultaneously, is also important. To find out more about the CPU in the laptop you’re eyeing, look it up in Intel’s product directory or an AMD’s Ryzen CPU product pages. Any chip that you are eyeing for serious video work should have at least four cores and support multithreading for eight concurrent threads of processing. High-end laptop chips can support up to eight cores and 16 threads.

For a bird’s-eye view of how a higher processor core count increases performance, you’ll want to check out how well the laptop you’re considering fares on our Cinebench benchmark, which is listed in the performance section of each review. This test uses software from video-effects titan Maxon to spit out a proprietary score based on how quickly the PC can render a 3D image. Although multiple factors can influence the score, in general, the more cores the CPU has and the more addressable threads it supports, the quicker the image renders.

The principle is the same for video-editing software such as Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, which are engineered to distribute compute tasks over multiple cores just like Cinebench.

Adding Text To Videos On Windows 10

Text can be added to photos or videos. This is great for titles, additional information, or just to add some fun for your viewers. Simply select the photo or video on your timeline and then click the Text button to get started.

This opens a new window where you can choose from a variety of different text styles. Each style has its own characteristics, , and will look different depending on where you place it on the screen. You can choose your preferred location for text by selecting one of the Layout options below the font styles.

Once you have the text you need, and you picked where you wanted it to appear, you can adjust how long it appears on the screen. To do that, drag the blue trim handles left or right to choose the start and end time for the text. Once set, the text will appear and disappear at the time you choose.

You can also add a title card to the beginning of your video, or as a transition point between scenes. The title card is a blank slide with text on it. Look for the Add Title Card button under the preview window, and then add text to it as you did above. The background color of the title card can be changed by clicking the title card and then clicking the Background button to choose a new color. You can add as many as you need to help tell your story.

A Final Word On Shopping For The Best Video Editing Laptops

The best laptops for video editing are a mixed crop: some Apple laptops, some gaming laptops, some ultraportables, and some maxed-spec machines. How To Choose The Best Video Editing Laptop For You

Performance: If you want good performance when editing video, you should get a laptop with at least a Core i5 CPU, 8 to 16GB of RAM and a 256GB to 512GB SSD. That will be enough for most 1080p projects, but for working in 4K or on big projects you’ll want to try and upgrade to at least a Core i7 CPU, 16 to 32 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB SSD.

Graphics: Most mainstream laptops feature integrated graphics, which can handle lightweight video editing at 1080p but aren’t ideal for big videos, especially those in 4K. For that, you’ll want a laptop with a discrete graphics card, ideally something on the higher end of the Nvidia GTX 3000-series.

Size: Consider how mobile you want your laptop to be. Ultraportables like the Asus Zenbook 13 OLED and Dell XPS 15 are slim and light, while gaming notebooks such as the Alienware m17 R2 are big and bulky â but offer big power in exchange,

Operating system: If you want to use the most common video editing software, you’ll want to stick with a relatively recent version of Windows or macOS â Linux and Chrome OS laptops don’t have what it takes to excel at video editing. Right now you’ll want a laptop with the latest version of Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur, though Windows 11 and macOS 12 Monterey laptops are right around the corner.

New FAVORITE Laptop for Video Editing! – Dell Precision 5750 Mobile Workstation

Thanks to its Thunderbolt 3 port, the Dell XPS 13 can be connected to an eGPU which will add the performance of a desktop graphics card to your laptop.

Naturally, this isn’t something you can carry around with you, but in a home office, it’s a way to turn your XPS 13 into a desktop PC. Dedicated GPUs can help lighten the load on a system during video rendering, and since the XPS 13 only has integrated Intel graphics, anything you can add from the outside is a bonus.

Something like the Razer Core X is a great shout. It’s affordable and relatively compact while still accepting full-sized graphics cards. It’s self-powered, and a single Thunderbolt 3 cable is all you need to hook it up to the laptop.

    Flaws But Not Dealbreakers

Dell includes a USB-C dongle in the box with the XPS 15 9500 that provides both USB-A and HDMI ports, which is more than a lot of laptop makers do, but wed still prefer to have more kinds of ports built in for a laptop of this size and weight.

When configured with the 4K screen, the XPS 15 9500 ships with HDR turned on in Windows 10s display settings. HDR can enable displays to show a wider range of colors, which can be useful when youre editing photos and videos. But for obscure technical reasons , HDR mode limits the screens refresh rate to 30 Hz, rather than the typical 60 Hz.4 This restriction can make animations, scrolling, and gaming look choppier than they normally do. Unless you need HDR for something, things look better with HDR turned off .
