Method #01: Open System Restore in Safe Mode

If you cannot access System Restore using the search tool on Windows 10, chances are some programs are hindering the behavior of the system. If that is the case, you should try your luck at booting up your Windows 10 PC in Safe Mode.When you run a Windows PC in Safe Mode, you are practically instructing the operating system to load only the files that are necessary to perform basic functions. Almost all third-party applications are shut down and their processes killed.

To boot your Windows 10 PC in Safe mode, first, hit Windows + R and type msconfig.

Hit Enter. Now, go to the Boot tab. Tick the Safe boot option and pick the radio button right next to Minimal.

Hit Apply and Ok successively before exiting the area. The next time you boot your PC it will go straight to Safe Mode.

While in Safe Mode, click on the search bar at the bottom of the screen and look for Create a restore point or System Restore. Click on Open.

Fortunately, theres still hope, as you can turn on System Protection manually for all drives in your system.

At the bottom-left corner of your screen, you will find the search bar. Click on it and look for Create a restore point. Click on Open when you find the appropriate option.

When youre taken to the System Protection tab in System Properties, youll find all the drives in your system under Protection Settings. Your system drive Drive C, in our case is protected by default. So, you will have to select any of the other drives with a single click and then hit Configure.

At the top, under Restore settings, youll find the default option set to Disable system protection. Select Turn on System protection and hit Ok to exit the area.

Refresh Your Pc Without Affecting Your Files

If your PC isn’t performing as well as it once did, and you don’t know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings.

Note: If you upgraded your PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a Windows 8 recovery partition, refreshing your PC will restore Windows 8. Youll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after the refresh has finished.

Warning: Apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from Microsoft Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

You can find more restore points by clicking Show more restore points in the bottom left.

The system will display all the restore points available with it.

If one or many of your programs are behaving inconsistently, you could also click on the Scan for affected programs button to check which applications and drivers were affected by the update. Select a restore point first though and then click the Scan button.

Windows will check for the modified drivers and applications right away.

Restoring Windows 10 System To A Previous Date

Step 1: Type Sysdm.cpl either in the Start menu search box or Run command box and then press Enter key to open System Properties.

Step 2: Once System Properties dialog is opened, switch to System Protection tab.

Step 3: Under the Protection Settings section, make sure that the protection for the system drive is turned on. Next, under the System Restore section, click the button labeled System Restore to open System Restore wizard.

Step 4: Click the Next button to view all recently created restore points.

NOTE: If you recently performed a system restore using a restore point, you will get the following screen instead of the above screen with an option to undo the system restore. You need to select Choose a different restore point and then click the Next button to view all restore points.

Step 5: If all restore points are not visible, click the option labeled Show more restore points to view all restore points.

As you can see in the picture above, the latest restore point appears at the top and with date, time, and description.

Its a good idea to know what all programs will be uninstalled when you restore your system using a specific date. To know affected programs, select the restore point that you want to use to restore your system, and then click Scan for affected programs.

Step 6: Select the restore point which you would like to use to restore Windows 10 and then click the Next button.

Go Back To Your Previous Version Of Windows

For a limited time after upgrading to Windows 10, youll be able to go back to your previous version of Windows by selecting the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and then selecting Get started under Go back to the previous version of Windows 10. This will keep your personal files, but it’ll remove apps and drivers installed after the upgrade, as well as any changes you made to settings. In most cases, you’ll have 10 days to go back.
