Hello,

I bought my laptop to prepare for a mobility abroad which ended up being cancelled due to COVID.I would therfore like to sell it.I’d like to know what I need to do to :

-Allow for the new user to create an HP account with this laptop’s serial number so that they can benefit from the warranty and assistance.-Reset the PC to “factory settings” so that the new user can use is as brand new .

What folks generally recommend is that you do a Factory Reset to restore your laptop to its original state. They claim that REMOVES everything in the process — it does NOT. What is does is REFORMAT the entire drive, but the files and folders are still there and can be recovered easily with any decent file recovery app. This means your personal data is still there, just not seen by Windows.

If you’re not worried about that, then do a factory reset and sell the PC. IF you are worried about that, the better solution would be to replace the internal drive and use the HP Cloud Recovery option to restore Windows to the new drive. That way, there is NO personal data on that drive.

As to the warranty, I don’t know that it will transfer to a new owner. You should not promise that will happen. If you want assurance on that, you will need to contact HP Customer Support to find out what they say.
