Have you bought a new HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, or Asus laptop preinstalled with Windows 10? Not sure how to set up Windows 1,0 on your new PC? In this article, we will see how to set up a new Windows 10 device.

When you turn on your new Windows 10 PC, you will not be taken to the lock, login screen, or the familiar desktop. In order to begin using your new PC, you will need to configure a bunch of settings and need to use a Microsoft account or create a local user account.

Customize Your Mail Experience

Go to Settings > Personalization in the right sidebar. Here, you can pick from a collection of 10 different hues or use the Windows accent color for seamless integration. You can toggle between the light and dark theme and set the background to cover the entire window or just the right pane where you read new messages and compose new mails. To add your own background picture, click Browse and select any picture stored in your PC.

For more functional customization, click on Settings > Reading in the right sidebar to manage your day-to-day mail reading experience. For example, Caret Browsing in Mail lets you navigate the reading pane with your keyboard cursor. You can use the arrow keys, Page Up/Down to scroll, and press Home or End to jump to the beginning or the end of a message.

You can toggle Auto-open next item on or off to indicate what you want to do when you delete a messagemove to the next message, or go back to your background picture. Mail also lets you decide when a message is marked as read:

  • When selection changes
  • Dont automatically mark item as read
  • When viewed in the reading pane

If you have more than one account in Mail, then you can tweak certain settings on a per-account basis. In the settings menu, these can be tweaked for each individual account:

    Local Account Vs Microsoft Account: Which One Is Better

    A local account is the classic way most people sign into their computers. This is where you click on your user account, enter a password, and start using the computer. You can still sign in using a local account on Windows 10, but you need a Microsoft account first in order to create a local account by going to Settings > Accounts > Your info > Sign in with a local account.

    The good thing about using a local account is that you can use it to and apps from the Windows Store without using a Microsoft account, and use system applications like Mail and Calendar.

    On the other hand, a Microsoft account is a single account thats free to use for signing in to multiple Microsoft cloud products like, OneDrive, and Skype among others, or devices like Windows smartphones and Xbox game consoles. You can also download paid apps with a Microsoft account and access all Windows 10 features.

    The idea behind the policy on local accounts in Windows 10 is to find a balance between Microsoft accounts and user expectations, while still offering as many features to local account users as possible. You can still use the local account on your Windows 10 computer, and then use the Microsoft account to download and install apps from Windows Store.

    As you mentioned that your son has set up Windows 10, he might have used some other email address to configure Windows 10.

    So I would suggest you to go tosettings> accounts> your account and check which email address he have submitted to configure windows 10.

    You cannot change the email address though, instead you can create a new Microsoft user account as per your convenience.

    To get started, lets setup the Mail app first. The great thing about the three apps in Windows 10 is that they are all integrated. Once you add your Google account to the one app, it will automatically be added to the other two apps too. In addition, each app has links to the other apps in the sidebar, so its super easy to switch between the apps.

    To open the Mail app, just click on Start and type in Mail. The top result should be Mail Trusted Microsoft Store app.
