Set Up An Ip Printer On Windows 10 Or Mac
How to find your printer’s IP address
If you’re having a lot of trouble finding a printer on Windows or a Mac, you can add it as a network printer via its IP address.
To find the IP address, access your router’s settings menu. Instructions on how to do this are printed on a sticker somewhere on your router usually the bottom.
Adding An Unseen Printer
In the “Find a printer by other options” dialog box, you’ll see five ways to find and connect to your printer.
“Find a printer on your network,” with the “Find a printer by other options” wizard.
My printer is a little older. Help me find it: When you choose this option, Windows performs another search. If it finds your printer, it will display a second dialog box. Select your printer, and Windows will install the drivers. If your printer is not listed, try one of the other options in this dialog box .
Select a printer by name: To use this option, you must know the name of the computer that the printer is connected to and the network name of the printer itself. If you’re doing this in an office for a network-attached printer, and you don’t know the printer name, you’ll have to ask another employee who uses it, or get it from your IT department. Notice the naming examples directly below this option in the image above.
Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname: Choosing this option brings up the “Type a printer hostname or IP address” dialog box. Here, again, youll need to obtain the hostname or IP address. Enter the address or hostname, and click Next.
On a home network, you can get the printers IP address from its control panel by printing a status report or from the printer’s built-in onboard web portal.

If you want to make your printer available to laptop computers on your network, you can use a wireless router. However, if you have a wired-only router or switch, you can still connect using Ethernet cables. Additionally, almost all wireless routers have enough additional Ethernet ports to double as a wired switch.

Why Wont My Canon Printer Connect To My Wireless Connection

If you have tried the above methods for making a wireless connection for your Canon printer and still havent managed to sync up, there are a few different causes that could be at fault.
Here are some of the things that may be preventing you from making a good connection to your wireless network:
- The connection between the network and the printer has been lost. This issue can often be resolved by simply powering down each component, waiting for ten seconds, and then powering them back up before re-syncing the two.
- The printer is not powered on. Even if the printer is plugged in, it needs to be powered up before it can receive a wireless signal.
- Ensure that both your digital camera or PC and your wireless printer are synced to the same network. If you accidentally sync your input device and your wireless printer to different networks, they wont be able to find each other.
- Make sure that the printer driver is connected to the correct port on your PC. If the printer driver is synced to the wrong port, this can cause connectivity issues.
If you continue to have problems setting up a wireless connection between your router and your wireless printer, you can contact Canons technical support team for a more detailed walk-through on how to get your printer and your wireless network properly synced. Before contacting them, ensure that the router is working correctly for your other devices.
