How To Keep Your Laptop On With The Lid Closed On Windows 10

Windows 10 normally puts your laptop into low-power sleep mode when you close the lid. This can be a problem when hooking your laptop up to an external monitor. Use the Control Panelnot Windows 10s Settings appto change this behavior.
If you do this, be careful! Closing your laptops lid and throwing it in your bag while its still on could cause some serious problems due to poor circulation or blocking of vents. Your laptop will continue to run, wasting its battery and potentially even overheating in your bag. Youll need to manually put your laptop to sleep, hibernate it, or shut it down using its power buttons or in the options in the Start menu rather than simply closing the lid.
To change the default behavior of Windows 10 when you close the lid, right-click the battery icon in the system tray, and then click on Power Options.
If you dont see the battery icon, click on Show Hidden Icons and then right-click on the battery iconor head to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options instead.
Next, click Choose what closing the lid does in the pane to the left.
Need To Visit Blocked Sites Use A Vpn
System administrators and network teams often block certain sites for security and productivity reasons. A good IT staff doesnt want inexperienced employees to accidentally browse into a murky swamp of viruses and adware.
However, you dont need a lot of technical skill or deep networking knowledge to use a VPN. The acronym stands for virtual private network. You can easily install VPN tools and unblock any website of your choice. Read this Surfshark guide which explains this further.
Whats more, you can install VPN tools on desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. Especially in business settings, its important to use a tool that has a kill switch and a no logs policy. In this way, no outside party can track your VPN use.
If you need to get access to specific sites, your first step should be to put in a request with your system admin team and company leadership. Bypass doesnt have to mean typing keys or downloading tools. Any resourceful business will review employee requests to make their work more efficient.

How Does A Computer Work
A computer processes the input to produce the desired output, but how does a machine outperform the human brain?
Conventional computers don’t try to mimic the human brain. Instead, they run commands sequentially, with data constantly moving from input and memory to the device’s processor. Neuromorphic computers, on the other hand, process data at the same time, making them faster, energy-efficient, and closer to the structure of the human brain.
Overall, a computer works in four steps:
Laptops Are Easier To Set Up
Not everyone in your company will be good with technology. You might not also have a technology department that you can call on to bring in a new computer.
Desktops often have a lot of assembly time, and they can take up a lot of space. This isnt always practical if your office is small, or if you need to get someone set up in a hurry.
A laptop can easily be set up quickly as long as you can turn it on, and you can get your employees up and running without much hassle.
If you buy every employee the same laptop, it also cuts down on training new employees on all of the special functions and features that may come with buying everyone their own laptop. Sure, you are going to have basic functions and software installations, but with everyone using the same laptop, it is easier to train people as everyone uses the same device.
You could argue that buying everyone the same desktop would work just as well, but the setup times will mean that you take longer to get an employee started than if you just worked with a laptop.
Getting someone settled in and ready to work is very important for a job, especially if it is that employees first day. Dont make it more confusing than it has to be.

Defragment Your Hard Drive
Over time, files on your hard drive become fragmented. As your computer now has to check in multiple places for the pieces, it can run more slowly. The term defragment sounds a little dramatic, but it basically means putting those files back together so your system can run more efficiently.
In fact, its something that Windows 10, 8, and 7 do automatically on a set schedule. The default schedule is once per week, but you can go in and manually run it if you suspect theres an issue.
First, its important to note that you only need to do this if your computer uses a traditional mechanical Hard Disk Drive . A Solid State Drive works differently from an HDD, and there is no need for defragmentation. If you have both, only defragment the HDD.
Go to My Computer and right-click the hard drive though you may have renamed it). Then go to Properties> Tools and under Optimize and defragment drive, click Optimize.
Youll then get an Optimize Drives screen popup.
Note that in the above screenshot, all of the drives are SSD. These do not need to be defragmented. As in the image, Analyze will be grayed out for SSD drives, but will be available for hard drives.
Select an HDD drive and click Analyze to see how fragmented it is. A good rule of thumb would be to keep it below five percent. If its above, you can click Optimize to defragment the disk.
Windows 7: Look for Disk Defragmenter using the search bar and select an HDD under Current status.
Which Business Laptop Is Best
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon is our favorite business laptop for four years running thanks to its lightweight design, fast performance and good display options. One option among the top competitors to the X1 Carbon is the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7, a gorgeous 2-in-1 laptop with long battery life, an awesome keyboard and fast performance. Unfortunately, it is even more expensive than the X1 Carbon. And don’t count Dell out its Latitude 9420 2-in-1 is a fantastic option if you have the budget.
On the macOS side of things, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 is an excellent option for power users who run massive simulations or transfer large files. The new M1 processor is a speed demon but also efficient enough to give the MacBook Pro an absurd 16 hours and 32 minutes of battery life.
If you’re an artist or designer who wants to use a stylus, we recommend the Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable, Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ or the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable, which is essentially a tablet version of the X1 Carbon. True power users who need to crunch big data should opt for a workstation, like the excellent HP ZBook Studio x360 G5. For those on a budget, like small-business owners, the HP Pro C640 Chrome Enterprise is a straightforward, easy-to-use laptop or, if you need to run Windows 10, consider the ThinkPad X13 or HP EliteBook 840 G7.

However, some repairs may come close to or exceed the cost of a new computer, depending on the specific components being replaced. If that’s the case, you’re only prolonging the inevitable, and you’re better off purchasing a new device.

Try Removing The Battery
Sometimes the battery can cause keyboard-related problems, especially if it overheats. In addition, batteries can expand when they get older, causing pressure inside the device and pushing the keyboard out of place. Just try removing it and plugging the computer directly into the power. Turn your laptop on and see if the keyboard works.
If all fails and youre still having issues with the keyboard not working, its time to go to a professional. If your computer is still under warranty, get in touch with the manufacturer and try to get it repaired.
