Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop Graphics Card Performance Review
Although the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop is not a gaming laptop, it can play some demanding games at low settings and resolutions.
For graphics configurations, you get either the Intel UHD Graphics or the Iris Plus graphics depending on your processor choice. These two graphics choices are integrated into the laptop they are inbuilt with no dedicated VRAM.
Alternatively, you can go for the NVIDIA GeForce MX230 which has 2GB GDDR5 dedicated VRAM.
The model I tested has a dual graphics configuration comprising of the dedicated GeForce MX230 card and the integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics. Both graphics cards allow users to view pictures, watch videos, and other graphical activities.
Furthermore, the laptop features NVIDIA Optimus technology. Speaking of the NVIDIA Optimus technology, it automatically switches between the two graphics options as needed.
Consequently, Optimus activates the GeForce MX230 when performing graphics processing that is too heavy for the Iris Plus graphics.
To access the graphics performance of the laptop, I performed a 3DMark test. Based on the result of the test, the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop scored 2452 points.
In comparison, the Lenovo Ideapad L340 15 scored 2728 points. Unfortunately, Dell Inspiron 15 laptop lags behind the Lenovo despite having the same dedicated MX230 graphics.
All these considered, I will rate the graphics performance a six.

BestDell LaptopsWindows Central2021
There’s a Dell laptop for every kind of user, although there’s one we’d recommend above the rest. The Dell XPS 13 is the company’s flagship notebook in the 13-inch segment and easily one of the best Windows laptop picks, sporting the latest components and premium design, making it the best Dell laptop. While not the best value on the market, this Dell laptop will certainly put a smile on your face.
Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Software
Dell includes a host of preloaded software — such as the CyberLink Media Suite and a 12-month McAfee Antivirus subscription — but other software utilities are more useful. For example, Dell’s Support Assist organizes a lot of service information in one location and serves as a hub for downloading drivers and firmware updates. During my time with the laptop, it prompted me multiple times to install updates, though it never restarted without my permission.
You’ll definitely notice slowness while using the Inspiron 15 3000, from plodding startup times to random stutters while web browsing and scrolling through documents.
As with most Windows 10 installations, the Inspiron 15 3000 can’t escape from the annoying Windows Store ads for games and apps in the Start menu. Luckily, there is a quick right-click-and-uninstall option.

Best Gaming: Dell Alienware M15
When it comes to gaming laptops from Dell, you can look beyond the Alienware brand, which Dell owns, but you’ll be doing a disservice. Not only do they look great with a sleek design, but they rock all the latest tech from Intel and NVIDIA. Anything you play will look downright gorgeous on the Alienware m15’s 15.6-inch, 4K display, and the combination of up to an NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM will be able to handle most games you throw at it.
The base configuration of the Alienware m15 comes rocking an NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU. This is more than capable of handling most modern games, so long as you don’t mind turning down a few settings here and there. The 32GB of DDR4 RAM is also excellent for gaming, so too is the Intel Core i7-10870H CPU. Even if you go with the entry model, you’ll be sure to have a good time.
The highest, most expensive configuration is still not the most powerful laptop Dell sells but does offer ample performance for your money. The design, battery life, and available ports are also great. The only drawback is configuring the m15 with all the bells and whistles, which can considerably bump the price. Still, if you want to game on your laptop, you’ll need to be prepared to part with some serious cash.
Testing The Inspiron 15 3000: An Athlon Creeping Along
No matter whether you equip the Inspiron 15 3000 with an Athlon, Pentium, or Celeron processor, performance is going to be relatively lackluster. But thats what you should expect of a Windows laptop at this price, especially one that has just 4GB of memory. Many complex apps these days require at least 8GB of memory and an Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processor to run smoothly. Still, if you know your computing needs are of the most basic varietywere talking browsing a single web page at a time, or typing text-only emailsthe Athlon-equipped Inspiron 15 3000 should suffice.;
Lets look at how its performance stacks up against a few key alternative laptops. We dont see a ton of $400-and-under Windows 10 laptops; the Asus VivoBook 11 is one of the few weve tested recently. You can find a lot of $400-and-under Chromebooks, but those arent directly comparable, so instead Ill use two $600-to-$700 models instead: the even-bigger-screen Inspiron 17 3000, and the Gateway Creator. You can frequently find the latter on sale for around $599, making it an especially relevant alternative in the budget space. It was a ho-hum choice at its $799 launch price, but a nice buy at $599, with dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics for light gaming and a much more powerful Ryzen 5 CPU. Ive also included the Microsoft Surface Go 2, which isnt a classic clamshell laptop but a Windows 10 tablet with a keyboard add-on; it starts at $400.;

If You Simply Must Stay Below $400
We can think of a few reasons to be in the market for a Windows laptop that costs less than $400. For those who are especially budget-constrained, or who already know they don’t need mainstream computing performance, the Inspiron 15 3000 represents an acceptable option, as long as youre willing to settle for a lackluster screen. On a midrange or premium laptop, these deficiencies would be significant drawbacks. On the Inspiron 15 3000, however, theyre acceptable compromises if you simply must stay below $400.;
If, on the other hand, you can add $30 or so to your budget, the Inspiron 15 3000 becomes substantially more attractive when configured with 8GB of memory and an Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processor, as well as the higher-resolution version of the screen. These are the configurations that most shoppers should aim for.

Dells two most popular laptop lines are the Inspiron and the XPS, and given the range of prices and configurations, it can often be difficult to determine the model you want.
The Inspiron starts at very affordable prices , making it a clear choice if youre looking for a web-browsing laptop that doesnt cost more than a tablet. But at the top end, it offers competent office-level performance. The XPS line, by comparison, is higher end, appealing to those with graphic processing needs or even a little entry-level gaming. Its top-of-the-line models have just received a refresh, with brand-new Intel processors available just in time for the holiday shopping season.
For solid business performance, youll also want to look at the Dell Latitude or Inspiron lines; for even higher-end graphics performance, youll want to check out the companys G-Series or Alienware gaming models.
In the Inspiron line, youll choose from one of three series: 3000, 5000 or 7000. Ive selected a laptop from each series below for comparison. In the XPS line, youll choose solely based on screen size and whether you want 2-in-1 capability

Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop Battery Life & Performance Review
Dell Inspiron 15 laptop comes with a 3-cell 42whr battery. This is definitely not a huge capacity battery, especially for a 15.6-inch laptop.
To determine the performance of the battery, I performed a battery test. In the test, I set the screen brightness of the laptop to 120 nits. I also turned off all other programs except the browser that was surfing over 70 websites.
Based on the test result, the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop lasted 5 hours 15 minutes. Consequently, the laptop underperformed in comparison with the Lenovo Ideapad L340 15.
Surprisingly, the Lenovo IdeapS L340 15 lasted 6 hours 25 minutes despite that it only has a 3-cell 36Whr battery. For this reason, I will rate the battery performance of Dell Inspiron 15 a seven.
Latitude: The Umbrella For Business Machines
Then there’s business. Dell’s Latitude brand is the mainstay for itsÂ;business laptops, competing with options from Lenovo and HP . Latitude offers options for workers in the office or in the field, with a mix of thin-yet-powerful laptops and durable systems that can take a beating.
Like the Inspirons and the G Series, the Latitudes make use of the same 3000, 5000, and 7000 nomenclature, with a 9000 series joining the family at the start of 2020. The second number in the four-digit model number signifies the screen size. So a Dell Latitude 7390 is in the second-from-the-top of the four lines, with a 13.3-inch screen; a Latitude 9510 would be a top-grade machine with a 15.6-inch screen.
Beyond the “simply” durable units, the Latitude line isÂ;alsoÂ;home to a few costly, highly ruggedized models that are designed to be used in hostile environments: doused in water, clipped onto an ATV, exposed to cold and wind, and the like. These are branded under theÂ;Latitude Rugged ExtremeÂ;moniker.

Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Audio
The Inspiron 15 3000’s bottom-firing speakers aren’t very loud or detailed, and I had to turn the volume most of the way up before it was actually audible. I listened to Sorority Noise’s “No Halo,” and found the bridge and chorus sections bereft of the typically nuanced rhythms. It made little difference when I switched among equalizers and the various presets.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to hear some distinction when I plugged in my headphones. The volume levels were more suitable, and the various EQs sounded noticeably distinct and worked well with their respective genres. Despite these improvements, I still noticed a lack of overall clarity and an underwhelming sound presence. The 3.5mm headphone jack is also somewhat annoying to deal with, as I had issues removing my headphone jack from the cheap-feeling plug.
The Inspiron 15 3000 offers pretty good battery life for this price range, but other systems last even longer.
Dell’s included MaxxAudio software lets you fully control the sound of the speakers, headphones and microphone. There are separate preset modes for games, movies, music and vocals, as well as a wide range of equalizers suitable for your favorite genre of music and some designed specifically for YouTube content. However, the multilayered interface could be more streamlined.

Best Overall: Dell Xps 13
The Dell XPS 13 9310 is an all-around fantastic laptop, but the things that set it apart are its body design and display. To fit a 13.3-inch touch display into the undersized chassis, Dell removed nearly all of the bezel the 16:10 aspect ratio screen practically stretches from edge to edge. It’s a beautiful display to look at, especially with the 4K configuration.
The XPS 13 is available in gold and white colors, but you can still get the classic dark look with the carbon fiber and silver combination. The new keyboard has the same key travel and backlight as before, but it’s using a new mechanism beneath, no doubt, to fit into the smaller body. You’re still looking at a quality Precision touchpad that’s sized in proportion to the body, and there’s an IR camera for Windows Hello located above the display yes, Dell finally moved it back.
New for late 2020 is a processor change and Thunderbolt 4. Models range from the $950 i3-1115G4 up to a massive i7-1165G7 with up to four cores and a 28W thermal design point , offering extra power without sucking up more battery life. Although the battery is now smaller, improved thermals and efficient hardware should keep it running through a workday, even when opting for the 4K configuration. As expected, you can get up to 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 2TB PCIe solid-state drive .

Vertical Line Lcd Problem
Some 17″ Inspiron 8600, 9200, 9300, 6000, 1750, and XPS Gen 2 notebook LCDs have a vertical line manufacturing defect. Symptoms range from individual lines to entire bars of the screen with inverted colors.Most problems showed after 24 years of usage.
Dell has been very reluctant to replace these panels after guarantee, although there was a direct link to the defective parts from their suppliers. Even warranty customers have had difficulty getting replacements, and replaced screens often develop the defect after a short time.
Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Keyboard And Trackpad
The keyboard on this Dell looks better than it feels. The keys on the Inspiron 15 3000 feature an attractive sans-serif font with white lettering that stands out nicely against the gray and black keyboard deck. The keys are slightly recessed from the deck, and Dell claims that the keyboard is splash-resistant.
With only 1.02 millimeters of key travel and 64 grams of actuation weight required to press the keys, the Dell’s keyboard made for an uncomfortable typing experience, and I noticed some flex as I typed. Even so, on the 10FastFingers.com typing test, I scored 62 words per minute with six errors, which is close to my 65-wpm and five-error average. The keys aren’t backlit, but there is a full number pad on the right side, which will definitely appeal to some users.
I’m not a fan of the touchpad on this notebook; it’s loud and produces a hollow clicking sound when pressed, which doesn’t inspire confidence. At least the pad generally worked well with Windows 10’s multifinger gestures.
