Why Razers Gaming Laptop Price Is Worth The Extra Expense

What Laptop Should You Buy For 3D | The Razer Blade 15 Worth It ?

If you want the power of a high-end gaming computer but also need to be able to easily take that computer with you when youre on the go, then a gaming laptop may be for you. Razer makes a range of well-regarded gaming laptops, but these bits of tech dont come cheap. They do give you value for your money though, considering their compact size. Here are a few reasons why Razers gaming laptop price is worth it, and why you should consider buying one if you need a good gaming laptop in Singapore.

Are Razer Gaming Laptops Worth It

Razer gaming laptops have been taking our breath away for the longest time, but are they really worth the asking price? How big is that well-known Razer tax and, if it truly is as egregious as some claim, is there a better alternative on the market? These are important questions, and they can also be reconfigured and reformulated in a much more direct way: are we getting bamboozled? And, if so, by how much?

Its no secret that Razer and their gaming laptops have an enviable position in the tech world. Theyre the Apple of Windows laptops, and, despite what you might think of the Cupertino-based giant, thats as big a compliment as it gets.

Simply put, Razers design and build quality are second-to-none in the Windows realm. The only laptops that can come close are those from Dells XPS line-up and perhaps Lenovos own Thinkpad series, although both examples cater to a wildly different audience one that Razer isnt interested in whatsoever.

So if you want a gaming-focused machine thatll floor anyone with its sleek design but also pack a ton of power underneath its hood, then Razer is pretty much the only option. As a company, theyve been going for that exclusive vibe from the very start, and its obviously paying dividends.;;

But thats just physics. These components require a metric ton of power in order to drive the latest and greatest titles, so we cant have it both ways.

Razer Thin: A Slim Metal Monster

A few years back, Razer modernized the Blade 15 with a squarer look and thinner screen bezels. Since then, it has seen only a few iterative changes, but that’s no cause for complaint. Its svelte build remains one of the sleekest among gaming laptops in terms of style, quality, and portability, all while ramping up the power under the hood. The all-black paint job, sharp edges, and clean look create a striking silhouette that several competitors have mirrored in their more recent designs.

The Blade 15 was one of the first high-end gaming laptops to be reasonably portable in a world of hefty slabs. This iteration measures 0.67 by 14 by 9.3 inches and weighs 4.4 pounds, plenty thin and relatively light while packing more power than before.

Slim competitors like the MSI Stealth 15M match this profile, while the Alienware m15 R4 focuses more on power. You can find more-compact laptops that really double down on portability, our favorite being the 14-inch Acer Predator Triton 300 SE. It’s worth noting that Razer’s power adapter is reasonably sized versus the bricks that accompany some gaming laptops, furthering the portability proposition.

Are Razer Laptops Bad

Why Razer

Razer is often referred to as the Apple of the gaming world, and for good reason. The company doesnt offer many laptops but those it does sell are consistently great. Weve reviewed four Razer laptops this past year and they each received a recommended 4-star rating. Its clear that the company has high standards.

Razer Blade 14 Performance

Gaming laptops can look great on paper, but what really matters most is how they perform in games and applications. Thermals and power delivery make a profound difference, so its rarely as simple as identifying the best CPU and GPU combination when assessing potential performance. To highlight how the Blade 14 truly stacks up, Ive positioned it against several competing laptops with competitive hardware.

All tests run at 1080p unless otherwise noted. Highest score marked in bold.

The Blade 14 performed well across our suite of tests but didnt manage to offer the best performance in any single test. For synthetics, it beat out its older sibling, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Edition, and the MSI GS66 in both 3DMark Time Spy and Fire Strike but fell short in the laptop-specific Night Raid test. The real winners in these synthetics were the Alienware M17 R4 and the ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition which offered class-leading performance.

For gaming, it also performed well and went toe-to-toe with the MSI GS66, beating it in the Unigine Heaven benchmark. Against the Blade 15, it did fall short slightly with the biggest gap occurring in Borderlands 3. Whats especially interesting here is how well the ROG Strix Advantage Edition did in comparison. By leveraging the combination of a Radeon GPU with a Ryzen processor, it was able to outperform the Blade 14 in every test, including synthetics, with the exception of Metro Exodus even without DLSS enabled.

Razer Blade 15 Advanced Review: Design

Razer has a penchant for designing absolutely gorgeous laptops, and the Razer Blade 15 Advanced is no exception.

This sturdy machine measures 14.0 x 9.3 x 0.7 inches, and thats remarkably small when you consider how many powerful components it packs. At 4.4 pounds, its not as light as it looks, but its not hard to carry for extended periods of time, either.

As far as its appearance goes, the best word to describe the Blade 15 is sleek. It has a black brushed metal chassis, with a light-up Razer logo in the center of the lid. Open it up, and youll find a screen with minimal bezels on top, and a tenkeyless keyboard, two speakers and a large touchpad on the bottom. The metal chassis is, unfortunately, quite prone to fingerprints, and probably adds some weight to the overall design. Still, its a lot more elegant than a plastic model.

On the bright side, the Blade 15 has ports to spare. On the right, theres an SD card reader, a USB-C port, a USB-A port and an HDMI port. On the left, theres a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, two USB-A ports and a proprietary power port. For what its worth, the proprietary power port is not nearly as convenient as it could be. The cord itself has an asymmetrical design, which makes it difficult to use if you have something plugged into the closer USB-A port. You have to either run the cord around the whole laptop or play musical ports with the rest of your peripherals, and neither solution is very convenient.

Is Razer Blade Stealth Good For Gaming

While it is, in the end, your decision to make, based on all the data that well be sharing today, its worth noting that Razers laptop is made to handle modern games with ease. Its not cheap either but we all know that Razer products are premium products priced accordingly.

However, this is an ultrabook meaning that it is extremely thin. At just 0.6 thick, its definitely lighter than most gaming laptops. But what might make it problematic for gamers is its small size, as it features a 13.3 display.

This is a matter of personal preference, in the end. However, I recently upgraded to a 17 laptop for gaming, because my regular 15.6 was starting to seem a bit too small. So I cant imagine playing games on 13.3-inch displays like the one offered by the Razer Blade Stealth.

It definitely depends on the type of games you play and whether you need your gaming laptop to be highly portable or not.

But to answer the question, yes, the Razer Blade Stealth is built as a solid gaming laptop and has some impressive specs under the hood.

Razer Blade 15 Advanced Review: Price And Availability

Is the 2019 Razer Blade Worth It?

There are five different configurations of the Razer Blade 15 Advanced, ranging between $2,600 and $3,300. All models come equipped with an Intel Core i7-10875H processor, 1 TB SSD storage and a copy of Windows 10 Home. Theres considerable variation beyond that, both in terms of internal components and displays.

The $2,600 model, for example, comes with a full HD screen, a GeForce RTX 3070 GPU and 16 GB RAM. The $3,300 model, on the other hand, comes with a 4K OLED screen, a GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and 32 GB RAM.

Our test model was the middle-of-the-road $2,900 variation, which comes with a QHD, 240 Hz display, a GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and 32 GB RAM. Even a mid-tier Razer Blade 15 Advanced surpasses high-end models from competing manufacturers, both in terms of components and price.

Performance Testing: True Aaa And High

We ran the Blade 15 through our usual suite of benchmark tests and compared the results with a host of competition. Below you’ll find the names and specs of the rival machines I selected, so you can see which components the latest Razer is up against.

There are a lot of different combinations here, which should provide all the context we need on the Blade 15’s performance. The Alienware m15’s GeForce RTX 3070 is one of the best 30 Series performers we’ve seen, even outpacing some RTX 3080 laptops, while the MSI GE76 Raider shows what an RTX 3080 can do in a thicker 17-inch chassis. The Acer Triton 300 SE is the smallest RTX 30 Series system here, and its RTX 3060 represents the gap between the top and bottom of the Ampere stack. Finally, there’s the Blade 15 Advanced Edition from last year, the lone GeForce RTX 20 Series system here, to show how much difference “Ampere” makes.

It’s extra important to test each GPU against one another, because we’ve found lots of variation among RTX 30 Series laptops. This is true even between two RTX 3070s or two RTX 3080s, and once or twice we’ve seen one of Nvidia’s new GPUs outperform another that outranks it on paper. We’ve discussed this more in depth here, but the bottom line is that individually testing each system is vital, as you can no longer assume exact relative results from pure specifications.

The Cream Of The Crop For Mobile Gaming

The Razer Blade 15 is a perennial champion among elite gaming laptops, and this newest version is a clear reminder why. The design is of uncommon quality in both look and feel, including functional aspects like the best-in-class touchpad, and the system is as slim and portable as any 15-inch competitor. The latest parts back up the style with ample substance in terms of benchmark performance. You can play whichever type of game you like at comfortably high frame rates.

Obviously, this style and speed comes at a high cost. But if you’re shopping in this category, that’s no surprise. It’s difficult to refute that the Blade 15 Advanced Edition is as good as it gets, particularly if portability is important to you.

The Alienware m15 R4 delivers comparable or better performance at a lower price, so there’s a value argument to be made there, but it loses out in terms of bulk. If you’re mostly concerned with performance per dollar, the Alienware remains a great pick, but there’s no denying the Razer’s envy-inducing combination of power and style. Its overall excellence earns it our Editors’ Choice award as the best, most portable super-premium gaming laptop.

Are Razer Laptops Worth It

Razer Blade RTX

Ask any Razer Blade laptop owner whether it’s worth it and you’ll probably get a resounding yes – they’re definitely a brand with a loyal, albeit niche following. That said, for the average gamer who just wants a machine that has a good performance to price ratio, they’re definitely a harder sell when it comes to value.

Let’s face it, you’re definitely paying extra for style points here as opposed to outright performance. That alone will put some off, however, for others it’s more than worth it considering how gaudy most gaming laptops are. Subsequently, you’ll probably have to weigh up how much that premium experience means to you when you’re choosing a product.

Razer laptops are, by all accounts, stunning machines with chassis’ that rival even the plushest ultrabooks from Apple and Dell. Other gaming brands, while catching up, definitely struggle to match them, and it’s a marvel that Razer can pack so much power into cases so thin. So, if you want something that looks great, runs well, and comes in a fairly light footprint, Razer laptops may just be worth that extra premium for you.

Razer Blade 15 Advanced Review: Heat

Like a lot of gaming laptops, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced runs hot and loud. If youre gaming, its impossible to keep the Blade 15 in your lap, as it runs at a searing 113 degrees Fahrenheit. We benchmarked a more comfortable 90 degrees while not gaming, but even so, I found it too hot to keep in my lap for more than a few minutes at a time. This is very much a machine that should live on a desk.

The Blade 15s fans keep it cool enough to run, although they get pretty loud while doing so. Even when just doing productivity work, the fan ran loudly enough to drown out music on the speakers by default. I tinkered around in the Synapse software and found a more comfortable balance. While the Razer Blade 15 Advanced is not going to whip your stray papers into a whirlwind, its not the quietest machine out there, either.

Razer Blade 15 Advanced Review: Performance

When it comes to game performance, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced lives up to its name. When we cranked some popular PC games up to Ultra settings, the Blade 15 still delivered more than 60 fps at 1080p, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 fps in QHD. My own tests backed this up, and getting more than 100 fps in QHD was not at all uncommon.

Heres how the Razer Blade 15 Advanced did in benchmark tests, compared to two close competitors:

Razer Blade 15 Advanced
77 49

Generally speaking, the Blade 15 outperformed the competition in Assassins Creed Odyssey, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, sometimes by more than 10 frames per second. Grand Theft Auto V tended to run better on comparable systems, although not by a night-and-day order of magnitude.

I had some pretty impressive results in my own qualitative testing as well. I put the Blade 15 through its paces with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, Doom Eternal, Baldurs Gate III and Final Fantasy XIV. Once I got the screen to properly parse frame rates and this was something of a struggle, as Ill describe shortly the games ran smoothly and fluidly, with lots of color and graphical detail to spare. Age of Empires III and Baldurs Gate exceeded 90 fps, while Final Fantasy XIV reached 120 fps, and Doom Eternal, 160 fps. You may not need the full 240 Hz refresh rate, but you could probably reach it, at least if youre willing to turn the resolution down a bit.
