This $599 Dell G15 Is The Best Cheap Black Friday Gaming Laptop Deal So Far
ByAlex Whitelocklast updated 15 November 2021
An outstanding value from Dell’s early Black Friday sale
On a budget and looking for Black Friday gaming laptop deals? This Dell G15 for $599 is quite possibly the best bang for the buck option out there, especially if you’re a casual gamer.
The combination of a GTX 1650 graphics card, Intel Core i5-10500H processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD won’t win any prizes for outright performance, but it’s great for getting started – plus, this is one of the cheapest machines we’ve ever seen to feature these specs.
It’s a great option in particular if you’re looking to play games with lower system requirements like Fortnite, Minecraft, Valheim, or most indy titles, for that matter. It will still play those triple-A titles, too but expect to drop down a few of those settings if you want 60 fps across the board.
Available in limited quantities, this early Black Friday deal from Dell is part of its ‘Black Friday sneak peek’ sale and therefore liable to sell out if it’s popular. You could wait a little longer to see what else comes up in the upcoming Black Friday gaming laptop deals, but we’d definitely say this one’s a great option – especially since super-cheap options have been quite rare this year.

Storage Media And Cpu Tests
Our first test is ULs PCMark 10, a holistic performance suite that simulates different real-world productivity and content-creation workflows. We use it to assess overall system performance for office-centric tasks such as word processing, spreadsheeting, web browsing, and videoconferencing. The test generates a proprietary numeric score higher numbers are better. PCMark 8, meanwhile has a Storage subtest that we use to assess the speed of the systems storage subsystem. This score is also a proprietary numeric score again, higher numbers are better.
The Bravo 15 rocketed to the top of the PCMark 10 charts followed closely by the Dell. All the others were left far behind . The PCMark 8 scores were predictably even given all these PCs use solid-state boot storage.
Next up is a pair of CPU-crunching tests: Cinebench R15 stresses all available processor cores and threads while rendering a complex image, while in our Handbrake test, we transcode a 12-minute 4K video down to 1080p.
Kinda one-sided, isnt it? The Ryzen 7 4800H chip in the Bravo 15 and the Dell G5 15 SE put them in an entirely different performance league. It doubles the core and thread counts of the Alpha 15s Ryzen 7 3750H yet more than doubles its performance in Cinebench R15, demonstrating how much faster the new architecture really is.
High Marks In Performance Testing
We’ve tested 17-inch gaming rigs that cost three times as much as the TUF Gaming A17 , but for our benchmark comparisons here I chose four more or less affordable gamers. Two are 17.3-inch machines, the Aorus 7 SA and HP Omen 17which stretches the definition of “affordable” by some $500 over the TUF, splurging on a GeForce RTX 2070 GPU that makes it the favorite in our graphics tests. Two are 15.6-inch systems, the Dell G5 15 SE and our $999 Editors’ Choice winner, the MSI Bravo 15. You can see the contenders’ basic specs in the table below.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is the cheap laptop you want if you plan to cut videos and play games.
Why it made the cut: The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an unassuming powerhouse equally prepared for gaming, streaming, and editing 1080p videos.
Extra SSD slot for memory expansion
The Lenovo Legion 5 15 pushes the boundaries of what we consider a cheap gaming laptop, but its definitely still very affordable for what it offers, given the components inside. Inside this small, 5.29 lb body lies a cutting-edge AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor. The processor features 8 cores, the highest core count of this round-up, and 16 threads, making it a worthy contender for best cheap gaming laptop for streaming and content creation.
The highlights dont end there. Lenovo has paired that CPU with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU and 16GB of fast DDR4 memory, so you can game with perks like ray tracing and DLSS while also keeping a tab open to mind your stream chat. When youre done, this combination will translate seamlessly into video editors like Adobe Premiere Pro.
The Legion 5 15s only major flaw is a small 512GB pre-installed SSD. If youre capturing video clips and also installing games, that space is likely to fill up quickly. That said, it features an empty second SSD slot so users can install more storage when and if they need it.
How We Selected The Best Cheap Gaming Laptops
As a longtime technology critic specializing in gaming PCs and PC components, Ive had the rare opportunity to test-drive many, many gaming PCs and have become intimately familiar with what components matter most. Ive tested everything from high-end machines costing thousands of dollars to budget-conscious laptops that could stealthily fit right in to an average office or school setting. For this round-up, Ive researched dozens of models that are available for purchase now at major retailers, looking closely at their key components, screens, and synergies that might exist between them. In cases where it looked like there might have been a tie, I turned to reports from real customers to get a sense of which laptops have left their users satisfied.

What To Look Forward To
At CES 2021, Nvidia announced its next generation of mobile graphics. The low-end RTX 3060 will run modern games better and will appear in gaming laptops starting around $1,000. And in May, Nvidia announced new RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3050 graphics that will replace the GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1650 in gaming laptops around $800. Many laptop manufacturers have already updated their lineups with the RTX 3060, and RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3050 laptops are expected to ship this summer. We plan to test these new models as soon as theyre available.
Until weve updated our guide with new picks, we recommend extra caution when shopping for a gaming laptop right now. In previous years, you could expect similar performance from any gaming laptop with the same graphics . But with Nvidias latest 30-series graphics, GPU performance will vary depending on how much power the laptop maker chooses to send to it, which means that a GTX 3060 could outperform a GTX 3070 if given more wattage. Manufacturers can also pick and choose which additional Nvidia 30-series features to include on each machine. PCWorld and Dave2D both have more in-depth explanations of the situation. Well be taking these performance variations into account when we make new picks in the coming months.
No Longer The Lone Amd Wolf
The Alpha 15 was almost alone among gaming notebooks when it was released for using all-AMD hardware, but the later launch of AMDs Renoir chips changed that. Dells G5 15 SE is one Renoir-based newcomer, running about $200 more than the Bravo 15 with the Radeon RX 5600M , the next GPU up AMD’s mobile-graphics stack from the Radeon RX 5500M and the competitor of the GTX 1660 Ti.
Nvidia’s new laptop-only 4GB GeForce GTX 1650 Ti is the closest comparison to the Radeon RX 5500M in the Bravo 15. Its currently not all that common, which will inevitably change, though Amazon and Newegg show a fair number of GTX 1660 Ti notebooks for around the Bravo 15s price. Such notebooks are usually saddled with an entry-level CPU and just 8GB of RAM to get there. Thus, the Bravo 15 strikes a better balance between performance and price.
Lets see how the Bravo 15 stacks up against its predecessor and several other budget-friendly gamers

The MSI GF63 Thin manages is extraordinarily affordable, and the most portable cheap gaming laptop we recommend.
Why it made the cut: The MSI GF63 Thin is a dedicated gaming rig that runs games as well as possible with very limited hardware capabilities.
Only a quad-core processor
Thin and light for easy portability
When cost matters most, the MSI GF63 Thin comes to the rescue. Coming in at only $649, its one of the best cheap gaming laptops under $1,000. with components that are only one generation old. It features a dedicated GeForce GTX 1650 GPU and a quad-core Intel Core i5 10300H processor. That wont be enough to play the latest games at high settings, but will still outperform laptops relying on integrated graphics and will look good doing it.
Apart from price, the GF63 Thin also manages to be one of the most portable laptops in this round-up. Weighing only 4.1 pounds and measuring 0.85 inches thin, its easily able to slide into most backpacks and wont leave your back aching at the end of the day.
Of course, you cant expect top-tier performance or storage at this price. With a 256GB hard drive, youll only be able to store a handful of games before needing to delete something to make room for the next. The 10th generation processor is no slouch for gaming, but wont do much for streaming. While it may not be able to do everything, the GF63 delivers a lot more than you could reasonably expect out of a laptop at this price.
Q: How Much Ram Do I Need For Gaming
In general, 8GB RAM is sufficient for a laptop with a good processor. If you want your gaming machine to be able to run high graphics-intensive games without much difficulty, upgrading it to 16GB will be worth it.
However, you should also carefully choose your GPU, processor and check your machine’s heat efficiency before deciding which laptop is best for you.

Display Details Part Two: Refresh Rate And Panel Type
Like the native resolution, you should take note of the panel’s refresh rate, even if, these days, it may be the sameâthat is, 60Hzâacross some budget models.
If the refresh rate is being called out as a feature on a given laptop, that means it’s likely higher than the norm. Most laptop screens, including those in almost all non-gaming-oriented budget models, stick to 60Hz, which means they redraw the onscreen image 60 times per second and thus can display up to 60 frames per second of in-game performance. Some notebook screens these days, though, can display at 75Hz, 120Hz, or more. These high refresh rates can be beneficial for some extremely fast-paced games, particularly titles played competitively online, including stalwarts such as CS:GO, DOTA 2, and Overwatch, and the more recent trio of Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Still, unless you’re attempting to become a professional gamer or get ranked globally in a particular popular title, a 60Hz screen will suffice. Nearly all gamers are still “stuck” with 60Hz displays, after all. High-refresh panels aren’t the norm in budget machines, but they are worth knowing about, and they have trickled down into some under-$1,000 machines.
A final note, about touch input. Despite the undeniable convenience of touch screens for Windows 10, they are not the norm on gaming machines, and we don’t know of any GeForce- or Radeon RX-based gaming models in the under-$1,000 zone with touch.

Buying The Best Affordable Gaming Laptop
Things were not so straight a few years back because gaming laptops used to be pretty expensive. The reason for which, was them being new to the market and the technology was not advanced the way it is today. But nowadays, you can very easily own a powerful gaming laptop at a lower price. In the past few years, a large number of powerful CPUs and GPUs were released, every time the predecessor became cheap and so the price of overall laptops came down.
In simple words, a gaming laptop with an RTX 2080 or 2070 these days is expensive, but going down to GTX 1050 or 1660 makes a budget laptop. And a good thing that happens to gamers here is that RTX 2080 might be the most powerful thing in laptops so far, but a GTX 1050 of GTX 1650 still gives you enough power for all your gaming needs. Now that you know about the fact that buying a low cost gaming laptop will cut-off enormous power and ultimate high-end specs, lets have a look at what you will actually get.
Where To Find The Best Gaming Laptop Deals In The Uk

Chromebooks: The Crme De La Cheap
Chromebooks used to be little more than glorified netbooks running Google’s Chrome OS. While these Chrome OS-based laptops are still resolutely web-centric, they now have fuller feature sets. If you spend most of your working hours in the cloud, a Chromebook will offer you much of the functionality of a regular Windows 10 or macOS laptop, and it may well deliver longer battery life, depending on the model.
It will also likely cost you a lot less than other types of notebooks, as many Chromebooks come in at less than $300. Just be sure you have easy access to stable Wi-Fi wherever you’ll use one, as Chromebooks have limited offline functionality and scant local storage.
Note that a Pentium or Celeron processor is adequate for a light-usage, budget-minded Chromebook. Intel Core processors tend to be found in the more premium class of Chromebooks.
