Stream From Pc To Tv With Chromecast

Can YOUR Computer LIVE STREAM? (Heres How to Test it!)

Pros: Easy setup, inexpensiveCons: High-resolution content may lag or stutter over a wireless network.

Setup overview: Chromecast plugs into a TV or displays HDMI port and draws power from a USB port on the television. In the absence of a USB port, Chromecast can plug into to an AC wall socket. Once connected, Chromecast joins the Wi-Fi network, and other devices on the network are then able to stream content through the Chomecast onto the TV. Basically any Apple, Android, or Windows device supports the Chromecast app.

Chromecast comes in stick and dangling form factors.

The device itself comes in two form factors, a stick-like chassis that resembles a USB thumb drive, or round, dangling unit designed for better receptivity.

Limitations: Quality of streaming may vary depending on available Wi-Fi network bandwidth.

Pro Tip: Use the 5 GHz channel on a dual-channel wireless router for Chromecast. It tends to encounter less interference than the 2.4 GHz channel.

What Is A Stream Pc

The only difference between stream PCs and regular computers is that stream laptops and notebooks need higher quality processors, memory capacity, and graphics cards. The most important hardware components in a stream PC are:

  • Processor:The processor, also known as the CPU, controls the input and output functions of your computer. The clock speed of your computer processor determines how quickly your computer can process and respond to user commands. Streaming video from your computer screen or webcam requires significant processing power. Therefore, HP PC laptops and notebooks that are intended for streaming are fitted with a powerful quad-core or dual-core processor chip. The HP Stream laptop uses the Intel Celeron processor.
  • Memory:Random access memory and conventional storage solutions are used by stream PCs to store and retrieve video data. RAM memory chips are used to dynamically store video as it is recorded and encoded. Conventional storage units, such as HDDs or SSDs, provide storage space for large amounts of streamed video content.
  • Graphics Card:This piece of hardware ensure that content on your monitor screen can be streamed live without log or significant drops in framerate. This component is especially useful for gamers who stream their video gameplay on Twitch or YouTube.

Stream From Pc To Tv By Plugging In An Intel Compute Stick Or Google Chromebit

Pros: Your TV becomes a computer monitor with full OS functionality by plugging in a tiny device.Cons: You might already have portable computers, do you need another one?

Setup overview: Stick computers plug into the HDMI port of a television, essentially putting full a Windows 10 or Chrome OS on the screen. Sticks have Bluetooth support for connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse, and they access the Internet over a Wi-Fi connection.

Intel Compute Stick and OEM Chromebit by Asus

Limitations: Used strictly in a display capacity, there are no real weaknesses to mention other than lack of wired Ethernet support. Stick computers are about as powerful as a tablet, so it might be underpowered for anything beyond basic office work and media consumption.

Pro Tip: When on the road, use it to sync with your cloud applications like DropBox and OneDrive and work from anywhere with a TV.

Battery And Display Testing

Thankfully, the HP Stream 14’s graphic and processor shortcomings didn’t completely torpedo our battery testing benchmark. To test laptop batteries, we play a locally stored copy of the open-source Blender classic Tears of Steel on a loop at 50% brightness and at 100% volume . We also place the laptop on Airplane mode, disconnecting it from the Wi-Fi entirely.

The HP Stream 14’s battery came in last again, dying about five hours earlier than most of the bunch, though it was neck-and-neck with the Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series . That’s especially disappointing given the low screen resolution higher-res 1080p panels have more pixels to push for a higher power draw, all else being equal. Yet the Stream 14 could not capitalize on that.

The one test that didn’t end in defeat for the HP Stream 14 was the display test. Using Datacolor’s SpyderX Elite calibrator tools, we test every laptop’s screen-brightness output levels at 50% and 100% brightness. We also measure gamut settings for the three most relevant color spaces for laptop users: the sRGB, Adobe RGB, and DCI-P3 standards.

What Is The Design And Aesthetics Like

HP Stream 13.3" 13

The HP Stream 11 has a chunkier design than some of the ultra books on the market with dimensions of 8.1 by 11.8 by 0.8 inches. This still does not prevent you from tucking it into your bag or backpack plus, it comes with an AC power brick that you can carry with you. This is a little different than the compact adapter you typically receive with other portable devices.

The HP Stream 11 looks just like a netbook and weighs in at 2.74 pounds. The exterior design is rather stylish and is available in a bright cobalt or magenta colour.

On the edges of the HP Stream 11 you will find the same types of ports that are present on the Chromebook. This includes two USB ports, HDMI port, SD card reader, and headphone jack. There is also a Kensington lock slot that allows you to secure the device. This is especially useful if the device is being used in a classroom environment.

The display does not provide touchscreen functionality and is surrounded by a thick bezel and has an anti-glare matte finish. There is also a 720p webcam located on the top bezel of the screen.

Surprising for a small device, you get a nearly full-sized keyboard that has an ample amount of space between the keys. This gives you the experience of typing on a full keyboard and reduces errors when typing documents and emails. There is also a little extra travel in the keys to make typing a pleasant experience.

This is a laptop made for first-time owners, those who dont need much power, and those who want things simple. The Price Is Right At Least

The latest in a long line of dirt-cheap HP laptops, the specific HP Stream 14 model we tested features 4GB of RAM, 64GB of eMMC flash storage, Intel UHD 600 Graphics as part of the CPU, and a Celeron N4020 processor. HP offers variations, available from various retailers, that feature slightly different prices and component configurations. For instance, there is currently a variant of our review model with a touch screen, as well as an AMD-based configuration available on Amazon for $360.

At 0.7 by 12.7 by 8.8 inches and 3.24 pounds, the HP Stream 14 is about the same size as other 14-inch laptops in its price range. While it is lightweight, it also sports a surprisingly sturdy build. Its a reasonably thin laptop that’s easy on the eyes, and the textured surfaces of both the inside and outside of the machine give it a rugged façade . Two rubber grips underneath the laptop do a fine job of keeping the laptop steady. It might lack the classier design of slightly more premium budget models like the MSI Modern 14, but that likely won’t matter too much to shoppers on a very strict spend diet.

The keyboard is as sturdy as the rest of the laptop, even if sustained typing is a little noisy. The keys are also well-spaced, so accidentally pressing the wrong key shouldn’t be a problem, at least not attributable to the layout. The touch pad is wide and responsive, though there is no way to disable it without going into the system settings.

One: Set Up Stream What You Hear

Before we dive in, we should point out that there is one notable drawback to Stream What You Hear: lag. No matter what you play, there will be about a two-second delay.

This means that videos wont sync with audio, and media controls wont respond instantly. Its not a huge deal, but it might take a little getting used to .

To set everything up, make sure youre running the Sonos media controller software for Windows. You also need to . Additionally, if you dont have it already, you will need the .NET Framework 4.0.

Once SWYH is installed and running, right-click on its taskbar icon and click Settings.

Whenever you start or restart SWYH, it will use a different port for HTTP live streaming. To work around this, you can force it to use a specific port.

Check the box next to Use specific HTTP port. The default port is 5901, so you can leave it like that, provided you havent configured another program to use that port already. Click OK when youre done.

Once restarted, again right-click on the taskbar icon and then Tools > HTTP Live Streaming.

Note, the HTTP live streaming URI and click Copy, then close the URI box.

Finally, right-click the taskbar icon once more and then Stream to and select your Sonos player.

As long as your Sonos device or devices are powered on and set up, you should see them in the Stream to menu.

What Os Does The Stream Use And What Is Included

HP Stream 14″ Intel 4GB RAM 64GB Laptop w/MS Office 365

Microsoft has partnered with Hewlett-Packard to include a full version of Windows 8.1. This makes the HP Stream 11 one of the most inexpensive computers that has Windows 8.1 installed. This provides you with full access to all features and apps included in the Windows 8.1 operating system.

Microsoft has also designed the Stream 11 with cloud computing in mind. This means if you require more storage than the included 32GB and SD card storage, you have access to 1TB of storage on OneDrive free for one year. OneDrive is Microsofts cloud storage service. Once the year is up, you can purchase cloud storage for as little as £4.45 per month or £44.60 for the entire year.

Additionally, Microsoft has included a one-year free subscription to Office 365 Personal. Once the year is up, you can purchase a monthly subscription to Office 365 for as little as £6.37 per month. Additionally, the Stream 11 includes a £16 gift card for the Windows Store.

Hewlett-Packard has also included some of its own apps including Connected Music, Connected Photo, and Connected Drive. You will also find a few third party apps such as Netflix, Amazon, and TripAdvisor.

There Was A Lot Of Care Put Into Its Construction

For $200, you get a lot of value here. The Streams plastic case is sturdy and hard to bend, lending to it a certain heft that gives me confidence in its durability. Its screen, while low-resolution, is reasonably bright for the price at about 225 nits, perfect for a bright coffee shop or lecture hall.On the inside, the Stream 14 also packs a passable trackpad and a surprisingly comfortable keyboard. Its not the Dell XPSs or even the HP Envys keyboard, but its white chiclets have a pleasant pressure to them. Theyre a touch fatiguing after long sessions of typing, but they wont slow you down for emails or shorter assignments.

For the price, the HP Stream’s keyboard offers an admiringly comfortable typing experience.

You Wont Have Enough Storage Space For Basic Operations

We tested the 64 gigabyte version of the HP Stream 14, and we dont recommend the 32 gigabyte version. 24 gigabytes on your drive will be taken up by Windows 10 alone, and that free space will only get smaller as you update Windows. Completely filling your drive wont allow you to keep up with security patches, will slow down your computers performance, and could even risk damaging your computer.

Of course, getting the 64 gigabyte version will mitigate this issue at least a little. In order to avoid overloading the Stream with personal files, you can insert a microSD card into the available slot on the laptopthese days, you can get a 128GB microSD card for less than twenty dollars.

A MicroSD card is a great way to cheaply upgrade the amount of storage on your phone, you game console, or your laptop.

Finally, you can store your files on a cloud service. Best Buy sells the HP Stream 14 with one free year for 1 terabyte of Microsoft OneDrive storage, although there are other options available, such as Dropbox and Google Drive.

Unfortunately, the Stream’s small storage drive can present a long term issue. However, its MicroSD card slot can easily double or even triple the amount of on-board storage.

The Display: Only The Very Basics

Besides the too-tight storage drive, the Stream 11s screen quality is our other chief complaint, and that’s not one that’s easily rectified. The display measures 11.6 inches diagonally and sports a 1,366-by-768-pixel native resolution. Commonly found on the sub-$400 laptop set, this resolution is lower than full HD and, even on a screen this small, results in grainy text and vaguely fuzzy images.

To make matters worse, the Stream 11s LED panel lacks touch support or the modern IPS technology that broadens viewing angles and helps increase color faithfulness. Add in a matte finish and the viewing experience on this laptop can best be described as dull. How much that matters to you depends on how you need to use the Stream 11. If its just an email platform and you can abide slightly fuzzy text, you might get on just fine. If youre watching any type of video, however, youll likely be disappointed.

The only way to rectify the Stream 11s dull screen is to use it plugged into an external monitor. Thats not possible if youre out and about, but if youre using this laptop at home, the full-size HDMI port makes it a cinch to connect a larger display. As with the SD card slot, the HDMI port is a welcome addition that’s rare even on more expensive laptops.

What Is Live Streaming And How Does It Work

HP Stream Laptop PC 11.6" Intel N4000 4GB

Live streaming works similarly to streaming other types of content, but live streaming is used for special events like sporting events or political debates. As you watch, the stream temporarily stores and displays small amounts of data on your device, then discards them as you continue.

When watching a live stream, you visit a website thats hosted on a web server. That web server connects to a media server, which beams the content to your device using a real-time protocol and a real-time streaming protocol . Those protocols allow video files to be sent in a smaller form, and then viewed in a higher quality form on your device.

Like any type of streaming, when you watch a live stream, you never receive an actual file you get only the parts needed to deliver your live viewing experience at any given time. Recently, social media platforms have started incorporating live streaming elements, such as Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

Verdict: You Can Do Better

With half of the main system memory and a fraction of the storage that we recommend in any budget Windows laptop, the HP Stream 14 does not impress. Perhaps it doesn’t need to, depending on your reference point. For the price, you’re getting a functional laptop with Windows 10, which already places the HP Stream 14 above most Chromebooks on that merit alone.

Still, in this price range, you can’t do much worse, but you can do better. In fact, for just $100 more, you can grab the much superior budget option, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14.

Are There Any Downsides To Streaming

While streaming is very convenient and popular these days, there are a few downsides to keep in mind.

If you lack a fast, stable internet connection and/or sufficient bandwidth, youll find streaming quite difficult. Your media may pause or stutter while it attempts to finish buffering, which wont make for a very nice viewing or listening experience.

Also, depending on the streaming service youre using, the quality may be inconsistent. If your internet is going in and out, you may find that a TV show starts and stops, looks blurry, or the picture and sound get out of sync. If youre used to high-quality Blu-Rays, youll notice a drop in quality. As long as you have good internet, streaming should work well.

But with so many streaming services offering their own proprietary content, you can rack up costs pretty quickly with multiple concurrent subscriptions. You may also feel concerned about online tracking, data collection, and the amount of personal information you leak that can be picked up by companies interested in knowing your listening and watching preferences.

Streaming services have also come under fire from artists who claim that the platforms make it harder for them to get appropriately compensated for their work. Tidal, the music streaming platform owned by Jay-Z, is one service attempting to give artists a fairer share of the proceeds.
