How To Choose The Best Macbooks For You
We have a separate guide on how to decide which MacBook is right for you. The TL DR version is to consider how much power you need and what you are willing to spend.
For us, the MacBook Air is an easy choice. It comes in at $999 yet sports similar performance and endurance to the MacBook Pro thanks to its M1 processor. It’s also the most portable of the bunch, and the improved 13.3-inch display is great for watching TV shows or movies.
If you want a bit more endurance and better performance over longer periods, get the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1. It lasts for a remarkable 16 hours and 32 minutes on a charge and scored benchmark numbers that blow away the competition.
Those two options should cover at least 90% of users. However, if you need either a larger screen or vastly more power for professional apps then the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with either the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip are outstanding, if expensive, options.
Best Overall: Macbook Air
For most people, in most working situations, the decision is actually quite simple. The 2020 13-inch MacBook Air is probably the best laptop option. Period. Yes, there are exceptions, and that’s why there are six more choices on this list.
For most users, however, the new Air–which now comes with 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, the Magic Keyboard, Retina display, and 10th-generation Intel Core dual, or quad-core processors–is really the best lightweight portable device that can keep up with most people’s daily use.
Apple has also managed to get the starting price back down to $999, which is a bonus. That said, I recommend paying the extra $100 for the i5 version. You’ll be glad you did.
Best Chromebook: Google Pixelbook Go
I don’t love Chromebooks, but if you made me use one, I could get by with the Google Pixelbook Go. It’s also the least expensive option on this list, though that’s deceiving because it also has far fewer tricks than anything else. Actually, it’s really only inexpensive compared with the other choices on this list. Compared with Chromebooks, it’s on the high end . That said, it is the best Chromebook you can get, and if that’s the world you work in, this is your best option.

Chromebooks For Business: Simple And Affordable
With the cloud becoming omnipresent in our computing lives at both work and home, Chromebooks are more viable options than ever for laptops devoted to work activity. These laptops are restricted to using Google’s Chrome OS, which began as a souped-up version of the popular web browser. Android apps from the Google Play Store extend Chromebooks’ abilities, but they often lack features found on the Windows-based versions of the same programs. Businesses that run their core applications on the Google suite may find Chromebooks useful under certain circumstances, though, as emailing and communications stations.
If web-based collaboration is key to your workflow, a Chromebook could be enough, and because Chromebooks don’t need powerful hardware to run most web apps, they generally cost a lot less than other business laptops. Some Chromebooks designed for work do have beefier processors and more memory. Our general takeaway, though, is that under most circumstances, they tend to work better as adjunct than primary machines in most businesses.
Macs Have Great Build Quality
Macs are known for being high-performance devices with a strong build quality. They last a long time, and rarely run into faults or performance issues.
A common suggestion we make to business owners looking to buy new machines is to consider Apples Certified Refurbished Products. They are available here. They come with the same 1 year warranty as new machines and are also eligible for the AppleCare Protection Plan Warranty . You can also expect savings of 10-15%! Why not right?!
Macs also have a higher resale value, so you could resell your 5 year old Mac for more than you could resell your PC, thus reducing your total cost of ownership.
This feature alone is worth paying for, as over time it can save big money on repairs and maintenance. A durable and reliable IT infrastructure is a massive boost to pretty much any modern day business, and Macs can help achieve that.

If youre a regular user, a business laptop will surely have plenty of power for your daily internet needs, but you may not utilize all of the features it provides and could be equally content with a more affordable unit or model. You Like Having A Bigger Screen
Some activities like data entry and programming are much easier to do with a bigger display. Unfortunately, Apple hasnt fine-tuned the iPad Pros ability to connect to external displays and designate a second monitor, although there are some adapters and apps that will let you mirror your iPad to a larger screen. Plus, if you like having a larger screen built into your device for traveling or working remotely, the iPad Pro alone might not cut it.

How We Test Macbook Laptops
We put MacBooks through extensive benchmark testing both synthetic and real-world before they end up in the hands of our reviewers. We evaluate everything from speed and battery life to display brightness, speaker volume and system heat.
We use a Klein K10 colorimeter to detect the brightness and sRGB color gamut of a laptop’s display. For performance benchmarking, we run the laptop through a gauntlet of benchmarks, including Geekbench 4.3 and 5.0 and 3DMark professional graphics tests.
To determine real-world performance, we task the laptop to convert a 4K video to 1080p resolution and to duplicate a 4.97GB multimedia file. Our real-world graphics test is the Dirt 3 benchmark with medium settings and 1080p resolution.
We also run heat tests by playing a 15-minute full-screen video and our battery test consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. We consider everything over the category average to be a good result. Of course, these tests are complemented with hands-on testing from our reviewers.
Acer Chromebook Spin 713
Tired of trying to work on documents or spreadsheets on a small widescreen display? The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 uses one of Acer’s bright VertiView displays, a 13.5-inch 2,256×1,504-pixel touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. As the name implies, it gives you more vertical room to work, but it still has the width of a typical 13.3-inch laptop with a 16:9 ratio. Between that and its battery life, which lasted nearly 13 hours in our tests, you’ll be able to get more work done in a day with this Chrome OS laptop — and it’s still thin and light enough for an everyday carry.
The latest version of this Chromebook is the first to receive Intel’s Evo verification, which means you’ll be getting the best possible mobile experience with this model. It’s also the first with Thunderbolt 4 support, which lets you connect to multiple external displays as well as providing fast data speeds and networking.

Macs Are Easier To Use Than Pcs
One of the biggest reasons we prefer Mac to PC for business, is because they are user-friendly and much much easier to use! It is definitely a great selling point of Apple products, along with their notorious accessibility.
A common worry among PC-based companies is that their staff will struggle to adapt to an entirely new kind of technology if they switch to Apple. This shouldnt put anyone off making the change, though, because Macs are so easy to get used to. Apple even has a webpage dedicated to helping ex-Windows users make the switch!
Macs are designed to be user-friendly, intuitive, and pleasant to work with, which could lead to your employees becoming happier and more productive.
How Often Should Your Business Replace Your Laptops
Like choosing between high-speed internet providers, selecting a laptop for work can be a daunting task. Spending upward of $2,000 on a single laptopespecially if you need to purchase multipleis tough for businesses with thin margins. But in many cases, buying pricier equipment pays off because you dont have to replace them as often.
Budget laptops may cost only a couple hundred bucks, but you can expect to replace them about every two to three years. Heavy-duty laptops are built to last, which means you should be able to count on them for five or more years.
Ultimately, it comes down to what you need the laptop to do for you or your workers. If budget laptops work for you, buy a bunch and replace them often. But if you need the power and performance that high-end devices provide, invest for the future.

Which Is Better Macos Or Windows
For the money, though, you’re getting great hardware top to bottom, inside and out. Apple recently moved to using its own processors, which resulted in across-the-board performance improvements compared to older Intel-based models. But, the company’s most powerful laptop, the 16-inch MacBook Pro, still hasn’t been updated to Apple silicon.
But, again, that great hardware comes at a price. Also, you’re limited to just Apple laptops. With Windows and Chromebooks , you get an amazing variety of devices at a wide range of prices.
Software between the two is plentiful, so unless you need to run something that’s only available on one platform or the other, you should be fine to go with either. Gaming is definitely an advantage for a Windows laptop, though.
MacOS is also considered to be easier and safer to use than Windows, especially for people who want their computers to get out of the way so they can get things done. Over the years, though, Microsoft has done its best to follow suit and, with Windows 11 here, it’s trying to remove any barriers. Also, while Macs might have a reputation for being safer, with the popularity of the iPhone and iPad helping to drive Mac sales, they’ve become bigger targets for malware.
The Best Laptop For College
The Dell XPS 13 is a compact and reliable laptop. Its beautiful chassis, excellent 16:10 display, and great performance make it an excellent choice for general-purpose users.
This late-2020 model comes with Intels new Tiger Lake processors, from a Core i3-1154G4 up to a Core i7-1165G7. It starts at $999, so its a bit cheaper than the 2-in-1.
My review unit blew through the work tasks I needed it to do without any slowdown or heat. It did quite well, and handily beat its 10th Gen predecessor in both gaming and media work. It didnt do as well as the XPS 13 2-in-1, which is why that model is ranked higher on this list. But if you like the look and feel of the XPS 13 and would prefer a clamshell model , this XPS is still a great option.
Theres an OLED model of the XPS 13 as well, which costs $300 more than the FHD model. This model has worse battery life, but does deliver a stunning picture.

Mac Vs Windows Vs Chromebooks
MacOS, Windows 10 and ChromeOS all have their own strengths and weaknesses. MacOS is buttery smooth and is the go-to operating system for many creative industries, but it also requires you to shell out a huge amount of money on a premium Apple device.
MacBooks run smoothly and can keep viruses at bay, but they aren’t cheap.
Windows, meanwhile is available on a huge range of devices from ultra-budget to super-premium and, for many, is still the operating system they know best. But it’s not without its downsides: Windows 10 updates are still a major sticking point for many people, and the fact that Windows 10 doesn’t run particularly smoothly on very cheap laptops.
That’s where ChromeOS comes in. This operating system is little more than a fancy web browser, with web apps that work best when connected to the internet. There’s a range of budget devices available, and a few premium options as well. There’s no faffing with huge updates and since everything is in a browser, there shouldn’t be any problems with programs crashing either.
See how MacOS stacks up against its rivals in ourMac vs Windows and Chromebookadvice guide.
Evaluating Processing Muscle And Memory
Today, processors with four or more cores are widely available to handle both everyday email checking and more strenuous business applications. Many business laptops use Intel’s latest 11th Generation “Tiger Lake” processors, though models with the previous 10th Generation “Ice Lake” and “Comet Lake” chips remain widely available and are still capable enough for many tasks. Truly demanding workflows will need hexa-core units like the latest top-end Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs. You can even find eight-core Core i9 chips, previously limited to desktops, in some larger workstation-grade machines meant for designers, engineers, and serious data crunchers. AMD-based laptops, employing the Ryzen Pro series of CPUs, remain uncommon but have started to infiltrate some classic business-laptop lines, such as Lenovo’s ThinkPad.
At the other end of the spectrum are power-saving processors such as Intel’s Y-series Core and Pentium and Celeron chips in tablets and ultraportable laptops. These ultra-low-wattage processors are often marketed alongside higher-performance chips look for the “Y” in the chip name to tell the difference. Really, though, Core Y, Celeron, and Pentium CPUs may prove a bit underpowered for everyday productivity work if you tend to multitask, with lots of programs open at once.
