You Probably Don’t Need 4k
For almost everyone, 4K screens are overkill. While 4K TVs are common, 4K laptops are expensive, don’t look that much better than 1080p, and really drain your battery. Pay for it if you want, but know that you’ll be making sacrifices elsewhere. Even gamers shouldn’t really consider 4K, especially if you play competitive games. A high refresh rate display is much more important.

Best Overall: Dell Xps 13 9360
Poorly placed webcam
Dell’s XPS line has long been some of the best in the Dell laptop department, and the Dell XPS 13 9360 is a great example of that. Everything about the design is just gorgeous, especially with the Infinity Edge display that virtually eliminates the bezel on the top and side of the screen. It’s a very immersive experience, but it also means the webcam is placed in the bottom bezel below the screen. The result is an unfortunate angle for video conferencing. Be sure to trim your nose hairs.
But beyond that, this laptop has a luxurious keyboard that’s amazing for typing. The rest of the body is covered in a soft-touch carbon material that simply feels great. The laptop isn’t too heavy, slipping in under 3 pounds, but it’s also not the lightest out there. All the same, the great keyboard and screen really make this the best overall pick for a Dell laptop. They’re just that good.

Will I Be Traveling With My Laptop Or Mostly Working In One Place
Portability is a major concern for some business owners and a nonissue for others. If you travel a lot or work in different locations on a regular basis, it may be worth sacrificing the screen and keyboard size for a lighter computer. You can always check the dimensions and weight of a laptop under the technical specifications online.
Keep in mind that laptop screens, like television screens, are measured diagonally and that, in general, any device lighter than 3 pounds is portable enough for business travel. Before you choose an ultraportable, though, make sure the device has the ports you require and a battery life you can live with.
The Best Laptop For Business Travel
In many ways, the ThinkPad X1 Nano is a run-of-the-mill ThinkPad. Its got a solid sturdy chassis, discrete clickers, a physical privacy shutter, a red TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard, and all kinds of business-specific security and management features.
But the Nano is special because its the lightest ThinkPad Lenovo has ever made. Its also one of the lightest laptops you can buy, at just 1.99 pounds. Youre not sacrificing performance to get that mindblowing weight: The Nano kept up with our heavy testing workloads without any fan noise or noticeable heat. If youre looking for a reliable business laptop that will feel like nothing in your briefcase, this is the one for you.

Asus Vivobook 15 Ultra
If you want a new budget-friendly laptop that can be used well at home, this moderately priced laptop by Asus should be a good investment for you. Asus manufactures several budget-friendly laptops that look attractive and perform reasonably well. This device, too, boasts a premium design and delivers reasonably good performance.
This is an outstanding laptop for people who type extensively. The keyboard is very comfortable as the keys are well spaced out. The touchpad offers a 4.1 x 2.9-inch surface area that makes it easy to navigate through. The fingerprint sensor is also placed right next to the touchpad.
- The sturdy keyboard and responsive touchpad make it a suitable device for writers.
- Multiple connectivity ports make it an ideal laptop for those who prefer connecting multiple devices simultaneously.
Buying The Best Laptop In 2022
Buying the best Windows laptop for your needs should involve some careful shopping. You want to be sure that it’s perfect for your needs, and you want to be sure that you aren’t paying too much. You also want something worth your money that will last for years to come. Setting a price and sticking to it is a good idea when shopping for a laptop. If you can get a device that meets your needs, and you pay what you want to pay, you’ll be much happier in the long run.
Many premium devices in this list will run into the multiple thousands of dollars range, but you can also get many of them starting around the $1,000 mark. These laptops are suitable for plenty of tasks, and the more you pay for upgrades, the better performance you’ll see.
Mid-range devices usually come in somewhere between $600 and $1,000, and while you can find something built well, the hardware inside may not be able to keep up with intensive tasks, and they likely won’t have as many features. This is slowly changing, and we’ve seen some mighty impressive mid-range devices notably from the likes of Lenovo, HP, and Dell.
There are a few general uses for which most people buy a laptop: gaming, multitasking, and productivity, multimedia editing, or business. Ask yourself what you’ll mostly be using the laptop for, and you’ll have a much easier time deciding on what type of device you need.

Surface Laptop Studio Review: Heat
That odd bottom section of the Laptop Studio’s base did its job in our heat test. Pushing air out of the sides, it kept the laptop temperate after we played a 15-minute, 1080p YouTube video. In fact, the toastiest it got was only 89 degrees Fahrenheit, well below our 95-degree comfort threshold. The bits your skin touches, like the keyboard and touchpad , were even cooler.
Dell Xps 13 Best Keyboard
- Can run hot
The XPS 13 was once the undisputed king of the ultrabook world, but the competition has stepped up its game and Dell isnt quite doing enough to keep pace.
A beautiful 16:10 display and the best keyboard youll find anywhere are enough to mean the XPS 13 is well worth a look for anyone considering a Windows ultrabook, but the caveats feel more pointed than ever namely poor port selection and a steep price.
This late 2020 edition with 11th-gen Intel is improved on thermal side with better performance but its still not perfect with loud fans. It might mean you can find the older 9300 cheaper if youre ok with the downsides.

Do I Want A Hybrid Laptop Or A Traditional Laptop
Youre already familiar with traditional laptops that open on a hinge, but now theres another breed of hybrid laptops to consider. Hybrid laptops, also called convertible laptops or 2-in-1s, are laptops that double as stand-alone tablets.
Some hybrid laptops screens detach completely from the keyboard, while others have hinges with a 180-degree range of motion, so you can fold the laptop inside out and use it as a tablet. Employees who travel a lot or currently switch back and forth between a laptop and a tablet may be a good match for a hybrid design. However, you should be aware that a 2-in-1 with high specs will cost more than a standard-hinge laptop with the same specs.

Is A Comfortable Keyboard A High Priority
When youre busy looking at laptop designs, its easy to forget about the basics and be dazzled by gorgeous chassis and high-resolution screens, but keyboard comfort is an important factor for most business users. In fact, an uncomfortable keyboard will be a much bigger barrier to productivity than a slightly unimpressive PPI or a bland design. While you shop, keep in mind that the smaller the laptop, the smaller the keyboard, and that typing on a miniature keyboard for hours at a time can be tiresome.
If possible, test out keyboards to get a feel for what you like. If you cant do that, at least take note of the size of the keyboard on any laptop you consider. If you choose a laptop with a less-than-optimal keyboard, you can invest in an external keyboard for long typing sessions but this is not ideal, of course.

What Is A Good Thin Gaming Laptop
There aren’t a lot of thin and light gaming laptops out there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find several options to choose from.
The best ones are impressively portable without sacrificing power or battery life. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 sits at the top of that pile, with MSI GS65 Stealth and the Razer Blade Stealth following closely behind.

Do I Need A Touchscreen Or Stylus Support
Touchscreens are a nice feature if you use them a lot. Laptops with touchscreens and/or stylus support are nearly always more expensive than similar models without touchscreens.
Computers with touchscreens also use a lot more battery power than those without, even if you dont actively use the touchscreen feature. To top it off, touchscreens are heavier than regular screens. If you need a touchscreen or stylus support, you should absolutely look for that feature in a laptop, but dont spring for it just because you think it seems like a cool add-on.

How To Pick The Best Laptop For You
So, what makes a laptop worth buying? First, it needs to offer excellent value for money. That means budget laptops below the $400/£400 price point need to still offer good performance and build quality.
Meanwhile, ultra-expensive devices need to justify their high price tags with best-in-class performance, premium build quality and lengthy battery lives.
If you want something to work on, a laptop with a modern processor, at least 8GB of RAM and a large screen are worth considering.
For gaming, you’ll want the best gaming laptop with a dedicated graphics card and fast and responsive screen.

The Best Laptop For College
The Dell XPS 13 is a compact and reliable laptop. Its beautiful chassis, excellent 16:10 display, and great performance make it an excellent choice for general-purpose users. My review unit blew through the work tasks I needed it to do without any slowdown or heat. It did quite well in both gaming and media work.
There is also a fancier Dell XPS 13 Plus available for purchase, which will include all kinds of new features the XPS 13 doesnt have including an OLED display option, borderless haptic touchpad, and LED touch function keys. Were looking forward to reviewing that model very soon.
