Stop Programs Running On Startup
Similar to programs running in the tray, other programs that automatically run on startup can slow down your computer. Some you may actually want to run, such as antivirus software, but others may be unnecessary.
Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager or hit Ctrl-Shift-Escape to launch. Head to the Startup tab and youll be able to view each item that runs on startup, along with its impact.
Go through these and decide which ones dont need to start automatically. This process is especially beneficial to performance if you can disable some of the high impact ones. But note that some of these programs are vital for Windows to operate. For example, the ones with Microsoft listed as the publisher are probably best left alone. If you arent sure, either leave it, or try a Google search to find out more.
To disable, simply right-click and hit Disable. Remember, youre not disabling the program, just the fact that it runs on startup.
Windows 7: Instead of accessing Task Manager, youll need to search for System Configuration.
See The Fastest Laptops You Can Buy
The laptops below are very good places to start looking if absolute speed is a key concern for you. We looked at Cinebench R15 benchmark scores for a measure of raw CPU speed and multithreaded power; this test taxes a CPU to its limits on all cores and threads. We also checked out 3DMark scores for a measure of graphics processing capability and PCMark 10 results for office productivity and overall system performance.
Use these as launching points for your laptop search. Remember, many of these models can be bought in lesser or brawnier configurations, so the limit tends to be how much money you have, and how much hardware a laptop maker can stuff in a 17-inch-screened chassis within thermal and practical limits.

Processor Cores Or Higher Clock Speeds
As pointed earlier, both the processor cores and clock speed are two important factors for the effective functioning of your computer. Having a computer with multiple cores and higher speeds sounds plausible. But what do all of these mean for the functionality of your computer?
Fundamentally, if your computer has a high c-speed but with one or two cores, it means your computer will be able to load and interact well with a single application pretty quickly. In contrast, if your computer has more processor cores but with slower C-Speed, it means the computer will be able to handle more applications at a time but each application may have to run a bit slower.

Pc Booster #: Upgrade Your Ram
If you want a little more multitasking performance but dont want to shell out money for an SSD, then a cheaper option is to start looking at RAM upgrades.
If youre running on a system with under 2GB of RAM, sticking an extra few gigabytes in the laptop wont cost you too much and can make all the difference. Microsoft originally stated that 2GB would work for Windows 10, but times have changed, and so has the number of processes running on any PC. Combine a RAM upgrade with an SSD, and its safe to say that your old PC or laptop wont feel quite so old anymore.

Storage Hard Drive Or Solid State Drive
Storage space on a laptop can be a tricky thing to work out. Do you want all your files accessible locally, or are you happy to make use of the practically infinite space of the cloud?
Do you go for a traditional hard disk or a solid state one?
It all depends on your needs. If you mainly use your laptop for surfing the web, emailing and writing the odd document, then you wont need too much space, and chances are it will take you a long time to fill up a fairly typical 500gb hard drive. The rise in digital streaming and cloud storage mean that most of us dont need as much room as we once did.
However, if youre the sort of person who hoards movies, music and want all your games installed at once, then youre going to want to go with a pretty large hard drive. The best way to gauge how much space you need is to look at what’s on your current laptop, how much of it youll want to transfer over, and then at least double that space.
Youll have noticed that you get less storage space on an SSD for your buck compared to a HDD. This is because SSDs are faster and can really ramp up the time it takes to load your programs, or even your operating system. The best solution is a SSD/HHD combination, which gives you speed start up times coupled with loads of storage.
Check Ram And The Hard Drive
Age can have an adverse effect on your hardware but users can check on performance with the help of handy monitoring tools that identify if a configuration error or simple deterioration is to blame for a lull in the laptop’s performance. It is recommended to run a few of these tests before upgrading or filing a warranty claim with the device’s manufacturer. If the RAM or hard drive are identified as the source of the problem, both can be serviced by someone familiar with hardware components for a relatively low price . Also, a full hard drive can seriously impact system performance, so if you’re running out of space, it’s wise to back up the old disk and swap it out for a new one.

Turn Off Search Indexing
Windows 10 indexes your hard disk in the background, allowing you in theory to search your PC more quickly than if no indexing were being done. But slower PCs that use indexing can see a performance hit, and you can give them a speed boost by turning off indexing. Even if you have an SSD disk, turning off indexing can improve your speed, because the constant writing to disk that indexing does can eventually slow down SSDs.
To get the maximum benefit in Windows 10, you need to turn indexing off completely. To do so, type services.msc;in the Windows 10 search box and press Enter. The Services app appears. Scroll down to either Indexing Service or Windows Search in the list of services. Double-click it, and from the screen that appears, click Stop. Then reboot your machine. Your searches may be slightly slower, although you may not notice the difference. But you should;get an overall performance boost.
Heres how to turn off Windows 10 indexing.
If youd like, you can turn off indexing only for files in certain locations. To do this, type index;in the Windows 10 search box and click the Indexing Options result that appears. The Indexing Options page of the Control Panel appears. Click the Modify button, and youll see a list of locations that are being indexed, such as Microsoft Outlook, your personal files, and so on. Uncheck the box next to any location, and it will no longer be indexed.

Uninstall Unnecessary Programs
Software is another factor influencing the computer speed. If you have installed a lot of programs on your computer or there are a lot of pre-installed programs on your computer when buying a computer, the performance of computer will be affected.
In such a situation, you can choose to uninstall unnecessary programs. To do that, you can go to the Control Panel and choose Uninstall a program to continue. Then you can choose to uninstall the unnecessary programs.
Disable Programs Running on Startup
And there is another situation where the computer performance will be affected. If there are too many programs running in the startup process, the speed of the computer would be pretty slow.
Hence, to handle this situation, you need to disable the programs running on startup.
Now, here is the tutorial.
Step 1: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys together to open the Task Manager.
Step 2: In the pop-up window, go to the Startup section, then select the program you want to disable and choose Disabled from the context menu to continue.
After that, these programs will not start when booting your computer. This action can improve the performance of the computer.
So, how to make computer faster? Choose to uninstall unnecessary programs or disable programs on startup.

What Makes A Computer Fast Cpu
CPU or Central Process Unit is the brain of a computer. It is a small computer chip that sits atop the main circuit board of a computer or a laptop. The clock speed of the computer and the speed of processing data are managed by the CPU of a computer. If the CPU is able to execute more instructions per second, the speed of the computer will become faster. In general, the higher the bit of the CPU is, the faster the CPU performs calculation.
Another aspect you need to know is the CPU cache and it usually lists L2, L3 and L4. This is the super-fast memory that makes the CPU process a more complex task.
So, in order to improve the speed of a computer, the CPU would be an important aspect.

What Is Clock Speed
In general, a higher clock speed means a faster CPU. However, many other factors come into play.
Your CPU processes many instructions from different programs every second. The clock speed measures the number of cycles your CPU executes per second, measured in GHz .
A cycle is technically a pulse synchronized by an internal oscillator, but for our purposes, theyre a basic unit that helps understand a CPUs speed. During each cycle, billions of transistors within the processor open and close.
Frequency is more operations within a given amount of time, as represented above.
A CPU with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz executes 3.2 billion cycles per second.
Sometimes, multiple instructions are completed in a single clock cycle; in other cases, one instruction might be handled over multiple clock cycles. Since different CPU designs handle instructions differently, its best to compare clock speeds within the same CPU brand and generation.
