ByLuke Edwardspublished 21 February 22
The best tablets for students are fantastic for getting that ideal combination of portability and power, all with a decent screen and plenty of app functionality.
Thanks to built-in cameras and audio, tablets are great both for in-class use but also for video calls and remote learning. The fact that these can be a lot more affordable than laptops is just a bonus.
A few areas you may want to think about before taking the tablet-based plunge: How big does your screen need to be versus how portable do you want this tablet? Is all day battery a must or is processing power the key? Will you need your tablet to work with a stylus pen? Can the operating system work well with your school’s setup? If it’s parents buying, do you need to put restrictions on the tablet?
It’s a lot of points to consider so we’ve taken the rest of the work out of it for you by laying out the best tablets for students right now.
The Apple iPad is the best tablet you can buy as a student, both for remote learning and for classroom use. Fortunately, this tablet’s uses go even beyond that, making it a great investment, even if it is one of the more expensive and not newest of tablet options out there.
Of course, multitasking also plays into this, if you want a document open while in a video class, for example â all of which is possible thanks to the power of that A12 Bionic processor and spacious 10.2-inch high resolution 2,160 x 1,620 Retina display.

How To Choose The Best Student Tablet For You
When deciding which student tablet is right for you we feel you have to ask yourself two key things: firstly, do you want a tablet first and laptop second or a laptop first and tablet second, and then once that is decided, what are your actual needs in terms of computing performance?
Many students prove their knowledge and progress on their course by reading literature and then writing essays about them, and for that level of computing any tablet with keyboard accessory is likely adequate. However, as soon as you start to need more serious computing out of a tablet, such as for image of video editing, rendering, number crunching or processing, then many tablets just won’t cut it.
And then, if you’re a student on a creative course at college and you need to be able to product digital art, illustrations, 3D models or annotated schematics, you need a tablet with a good touchscreen and digital stylus, as trust us when we say this, not all screens and styli are made equal. The last thing you want is a horrible delay on your actions, but that’s what you can end up with if you’re not careful.
As such, be sure to enter in to a tablet purchase with your eyes open to your needs, as well as just what performance the slate and its accessories offer.

Surface Laptop Studio Review: Performance
With an Intel Core i7-11370H CPU and 32GB of RAM, our generously equipped Surface Laptop Studio had no problems running a demanding workload. Thirty Google Chrome tabs and a dozen Edge windows loaded instantly and I didn’t detect even a hint of lag when I streamed videos and played music in the background. I even edited the photos for this review in Affinity Photos and only ran into some slight hesitation while uploading a large batch of full-res images from my Nikon Z6.
I do need to point out some fine print. Yes, this is a Core i7, and yes, it belongs in Intel’s high-performance H-series, but the Core i7-11370H in the Laptop Studio is not as powerful as the chips found within most laptops in this class. Those processors, like the Core i7-11800H, pack eight cores and 16 threads whereas this one has only four cores and eight threads. So if you need the absolute fastest speeds, you won’t find them here.
With that said, the Surface Laptop Studio did a decent job on the Geekbench 5 overall performance test, posting a 5,820 multi-core score. That puts it ahead of the Spectre x360 14 and the category average , but far behind the XPS 15 and the ThinkPad X1 Extreme . The M1 MacBook is ahead of the Surface but behind the other two.

Buying The Best Laptop For Students

For young students, a Chromebook is usually the best way to go. There are plenty of options available, and these machines do great at the basics like document processing, video calls, and more, on a tighter budget. Windows laptops are the more versatile options, with the ability to run traditional PC apps and do more or less everything you expect from a computer.
MacBooks are solid offerings and will handle even the heaviest workloads, making them great for intense workloads.
