While shopping for a new laptop for my wife, I came across a good deal for a Dell Inspiron 15 5515. Since she broke her current laptop, Im opting for something more on a budget in case it happens again.

I actually was pretty impressed with the last Dell Inspiron I reviewed back in 2017. That thing is actually still running strong for my mother-in-law, believe it or not all Ive had to do was replace the SSD once. So that made this 2021 Inspiron a little more appealing of an option, especially with the bumped specs.

Having used it for the last days, while this laptop isnt well suited for my wifes needs, its still a . I dont think this is for everybody, but if youre looking for an inexpensive laptop to do light tasks but dont want to turn to a Chromebook, perhaps this is something youd be interested in.

Full disclosure, I dont review laptops like this very often. Ill probably come off as critical in some places, but I promise to sum it all up at the end and rate it according to the overall value of the machine. Also note, that I literally only spent a couple of days with this machine. I put it through my standard tests and typed the review on it thats about it.

Im not a fan of the Dell Inspiron 16s keyboard. The deck flexes when I type and the keys are too tightly packed. The backspace is also rather small. However, the keys themselves are a bit punchy. I just wish they were a little more pronounced.

I got 73 words per minute on the 10fastfingers.com typing test, which is a bit under my current 78-wpm average. I made plenty of mistakes due to the unique spacing of the keys.

The touchpad is large, almost reminiscent of a MacBooks Force trackpad. The texture is smooth, but I dont like the clickers that accompany it. Pressing down, I was greeted with a shallow, sharp click. A deep, bassy click is preferable and typically requires less force to achieve.

The Dell Latitude 15 is actually a 14-inch laptop, but with a 15-inch display. Yes, really Dell is using its InfinityEdge display for a near bezel-free notebook, and it looks gorgeous. As well as the awesome display, Dell also made sure you remain connected for work with a built-in AI for enhanced performance and 5G for true wireless connectivity. It also comes with the security features you’d expect in a business laptop, including an IR camera and fingerprint reader for Windows Hello and an optional proximity sensor.

The 9510 can be configured with up to a 10th Generation Intel Core I7-1185G7 CPU, 32GB of LPDDR4x, RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Each model has Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. There’s the option of a 4K panel too, but regardless of which display you choose, you’ll enjoy 100% sRGB color gamut coverage, and lower resolutions will allow the laptop to enjoy upwards of 30 hours of battery life.

Dell is known throughout the world for its quality and performance and the latest laptop range available at JB certainly ticks those boxes. But it also ticks as lot more, as youd expect from one of the worlds biggest computer hardware brands. When you buy a big brand laptop from Dell you also expect reliability and toughness. A laptop needs to be dragged to meetings, put in and taken out of bags and used on hard desks and soft laps. Buying a Dell laptop from JB means youre buying trust, trust to use them as your main computer at school, in the home office or in your big or small business every day without fail.

This all means you’re getting an affordable laptop that’s more than happy to work through documents, email, and browsing online. For the price, this is a great deal if you don’t plan on doing too much. The only drawback here is the performance if you plan on genuinely pushing the machine to its limit.

If you need a little more punch where it matters, you can spend a little more and configure the Inspiron with an Intel Core i7 processor and Iris Xe graphics.
