What Is The Lightest Laptop In The World

Don't Miss

Best For Work: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon

Unboxing the World’s LIGHTEST Laptop | The Tech Chap
  • Requires special ethernet adapter

  • No microSD slot

Lightweight work laptops should travel well and be able to get you through the day on a single charge, and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon fits that description to a tee. This laptop wont be cumbersome to travel with since it weighs just 2.4 pounds and measures just a bit over 0.5 inches thick. The larger 14-inch FHD, anti-glare and low-power display offers crisp views of whatever youre working on and the spill- and drop-proof build and impressive battery life of up to 18.3 hours makes this a capable portable work station.

Other helpful features include a fingerprint sensor, backlit keyboard, and a camera shutter cover for more privacy. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon can also be equipped with up to a 1TB SSD and up to 16GB of RAM for easy file storage and seamless multitasking. While the port selection is also generous, this laptop lacks a microSD and does require a proprietary ethernet adapter if you prefer a wired connection.

Q: What Is The Most Quiet Laptop

The Apple MacBook Air with M1 Chip is the quietest laptop you can buy since it has no fan, thus no fan noise to get in the way. It’s absolutely silent.

Don’t Expect Discrete Graphics

While you will also see 14-inch Acer notebooks that carry the Swift 5 name, the real newsmakers are two 15.6-inch machines. My test unit is model SF515-51T-507P, equipped with a 1.6GHz Core i5-8265U processor with Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated silicon, 8GB of memory, a 256GB NVMe solid-state drive, and a full HD touch screen.

Apple Macbook Air 133

At the point of writing, the MacBook Air is the most affordable MacBook one can buy. Apple has quietly retired the MacBook Air 11 leaving only the MacBook Air 13. This is not entirely a bad thing as there must be a decline in demand for the smaller MacBook Air. Being a MacBook Aif fan myself and a proud owner of the MacBook Air 13, I can see how this will be popular for those who do not want to spend big bucks on the new MacBook 12 or new MacBook Pro 2016 only to spend more on adapters given its lack of ports. It is also the longest lasting laptop outlasting the MacBook 12 and MacBook Pro 2016 by 2 hours per charge, 12 hours in total.

So we know we get 2 extra hours and a handful of ports, but what are we missing. What you do not get on the MacBook Air is the retina display and the Force Touch trackpad. Both MacBook 12 and MacBook Pro have Retina displays and Force Touch trackpad. And, the new MacBook Pro does come with faster processors and weighs just slightly more 20 grams more to be exact when comparing the 13-inch devices.

What Are The Best Ultrabooks

Is this the World

Dell’s XPS 13 has been the best Ultrabook for several years running and the 2021 model is the best yet. It takes the edge-to-edge display Dell popularized years ago and amps it up by removing the bottom bezel. The effect is mesmerizing. On top of that, the XPS 13 offers fast performance and long battery life in the smallest chassis yet for the thin and light series.

If you don’t want to spend so much, go with the HP Envy 13. It might not be quite as premium as the XPS 13 or its sibling, the Spectre x360 14, but at $800, you won’t get much better. Apple fans or those who prefer macOS over Windows 10 should probably opt for the MacBook Air, which finally has a good keyboard.

Other top Ultrabooks to consider include the aforementioned HP Spectre x360 134 or its rival the Lenovo Yoga 9i. Lenovo still has the business market locked down with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga although HP is making a serious claim with the new Elite Dragonfly.

Reasons to avoid

The Dell XPS 13 is a serious workhorse. Powered by up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with Iris Xe graphics, the notebook is ready for work or play. And with over 12 hours of battery life, you’ve got plenty of time for both, The notebook consistently performed either better or on a par with competing systems.

Best For Students: Google Pixelbook Go

  • Battery lasts for at least 12 hours

  • 1080p camera

  • Limited selection of ports

  • Storage capped at 265GB

Chromebooks tend to be portable and student-friendly devices, and the Google Pixelbook Go is no exception. While the option of an upgraded processor, 4K display, and more storage and memory could start to add up, the standard Intel Core M3 processor and 8GB RAM and a 64GB SSD is relatively budget-friendly. This standard configuration delivers speedy boot times of mere seconds and theres plenty of cloud storage to meet most students file storing needs. As with most Chromebooks, port selection is limited, but the trade-off comes with desirable portability at around 0.5 inches thick and a little over 2 pounds.

While its not the most advanced display available in the category, the 13.3-inch HD screen will do just fine for most tasks, including video streaming. A bonus is that the 1080p webcam is a step up from most Chromebooks and ultrabooks, which could be great for virtual learning. Another asset is the long 12-hour battery life and the ability to eke out 2 hours of use with a quick 20-minute charge.

Nearly everything about using this quiet, slim device is enjoyable.” Jonno Hill, Product Tester

Acer Swift 7 196 Pounds

The Acer Swift 7 isnt the fastest laptop you can buy it still uses an 8th-gen Y-series low-power CPU whose entire purpose is to reduce heat and save on battery life. The Swift 7 makes some compromises to be very thin and light too, like packing a 32WHr battery and using very lightweight materials that are a bit too flexible.

But what it does right is keep the weight down. Fully configured with a Core i7-8500Y, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB PCIe solid-state drive , and a 14-inch touch display, the Swift 7 only weighs 1.96 pounds. Its just 0.39 inches thick too, making it the thinnest touchscreen laptop as well.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 238 Pounds

Just because this is described as a tablet doesnt mean you shouldnt consider using it as a laptop. Combine the base unit with the Type Cover, and the overall weight of Microsofts Surface Pro 7 is 2.38 pounds 2.42 pounds if you go with the Core i7 configuration.

Since the Surface Pro is classified as a detachable 2-in-1 PC, you can use the touchscreen on its own, but when you add the keyboard, you get the full benefit of using a laptop. The keyboard itself costs $129, while the tablet portion begins at $749 for the Core i3 processor. Even with the keyboard attached, this 2-in-1 PC still comes in at the lightest weight when compared with Microsofts Surface Laptop 3. Weve found that its even lighter and more portable than the Surface Laptop Go.

This tablet is top-notch, with a 12.3-inch screen that has 2736 x 1824 resolution. Youll experience quality graphics with no lag whether you choose the 10th-generation Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor. It also boasts up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Q: How Thin Should A Lightweight Laptop Be

A laptopâs thickness has more to do with personal preference than efficiency. But, generally speaking, computer fanatics will be impressed with a laptop with a thickness of an inch or less. To put this into perspective, the MacBook Air has a maximum thickness of 16mm . Generally, the thinner the laptop, the more lightweight itâll be. This means itâll be easier to transport and carry while youâre on the go. It is important to note that thin laptops are typically more prone to acquiring blemishes or nicks as you move because of their slight build. But when treated with care or paired with a laptop case, users can expect lightweight laptops to be reliable.

Hp Elite Dragonfly 218 Pounds

Like Lenovos laptop, HP jumped on the Intel Evo bandwagon with its latest Elite Dragonfly notebook. Youll see configurations spanning five 11th-generation Intel processors from the i3-1115G4 to the i7-1185G7 along with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.

This laptop is a convertible 2-in-1, which means the screen and keyboard deck are connected by a 360-degree hinge, enabling clamshell, tent, stand, and tablet modes. The 13.3-inch screen can be configured with a Full HD or 4K resolution.

Connectivity consists of two USB-C ports with USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4, one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. Its powered by a 38WHr or 56WHr battery, depending on the configuration. Wireless options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and cellular connectivity depending on the configuration.

Surface Laptop 4 Review: Screen And Design

It’s certainly hard to fault the Surface Laptop 4 in terms of its design and its visual appeal the aesthetics here are top-notch, particularly when it comes to the Matte Black model that we had in to review . There are only so many ways to design a laptop of course, but that said we do like what Microsoft has done here: there’s a premium fit and finish all round, and that extends to the display hinge, which feels solid and reliable.

Our review unit came with a 13.5-inch, 2,256 x 1,504 pixel IPS LCD screen, which is sharp, bright and vibrant just about everything you could want with a display on a laptop, even if it doesn’t quite reach the deep blacks and contrast levels you get with OLED. We also like the 3:2 aspect ratio, which means you can see more of a document or a website at one time . If we did have a quibble, the bezels are a little on the thick side for 2021, but it’s fine really. Your other option for the Surface Laptop 4 is a 15-inch, 2,496 x 1,664 pixel IPS LCD screen, and both sizes are touch-enabled if you want to poke at the display.

However, buying a really good laptop, one that corresponds to your needs and at a price that really reflects the qualities of the product, will prove a real problem. 10. Apple Macbook Air

Fastest Laptops in the World Apple MacBook Air

This futuristic looking laptop is famous for being ultra and extremely light. A multi-touch trackpad, as well an elegant design and an aluminum body are the most impressive characteristics of this laptop, which wears the Apple signature. If you add the 13 screen and the 1,32Kg it weights, you got yourself one of the best laptops these days. What holds back this device is the lack of an internal DVD drive, but an USB should easily solve your problem.

Lenovo has a great price-to-feature ratio. It has a nice 15.4 screen and offers great connectivity, as well as many awesome features such as a great, compact keyboard and a chasis which feels like a solid metal block, although it is really made of plastic. Acer went with a very basic cooling implementation, with a single fan and short heatpipe that links a radiator to a surprisingly small CPU plate, smaller than the plate used on the 14-inch Swift 5.

In theory this implementation should be able to keep the Whiskey Lake processors at bay, but we cant confirm it based on this sample and it might end up interfering with performance in demanding loads.

The cooling is further helped by the ample intakes on the underbelly, as well as by the fact that the laptop lifts up and increases the gap between the main-body and the desk, for improved airflow. Hot air is blown out through a grill behind the hinge, partially towards the back and partially towards the screen, a fairly standard solution that wont pose any long-term reliability issues.

Unlike on the 14-inch Swift 5 tested in the past, the fan inside our 15-inch sample was always active, both with basic tasks and with everyday multitasking. I reckon thats a quirk associated with this pre-release sample and final units will get a more tamed down fan profile thats going to keep it inactive with daily use, like on the smaller Swift 5. Even so, this is a quiet fan, averaging about 38 dB at head-level with everyday multitasking and ramping up to about 40 dB with games, at a room ambient level of about 34 dB based on our Sound Meter.
