How We Test The Best 2
To find the best 2-in-1 laptops we run every machine through a rigorous suite of benchmarks and real-world tests to gauge how it will perform during everyday use.
We measure the average brightness and color quality of each laptop’s display using our in-house light meter and colorimeter. For general performance, we run our machines through tests that include Geekbench 5 , as well as various 3DMark tests to measure graphics capabilities. We also run a file transfer test to measure how fast a machine’s hard drive is, and a custom battery test that has the machine browse the internet over Wi-Fi until it runs out of juice.
Since these aren’t dedicated gaming laptops we don’t run benchmarks for popular games 2-in-1 laptops don’t have discrete GPUs, as a rule, and thus will rarely deliver satisfactory performance in modern 3D games. However, they are capable of running older or less demanding PC games, so we do run a benchmark test to measure their performance in Sid Meier’s Civilization 6: Gathering Storm.

Hp Envy X360 15 Keyboard And Touchpad
The Envy x360s keyboard is a joy to type on, even with my giant Shrek-like hands. The travel on the clicky, backlit keyboard is excellent. Typing was a pleasure. I found it refreshing for such a small, tightly built convertible.
I scored a shocking 96 words per minute with 95% accuracy on the 10fastfingers test. My usual wpm average is between 70% and 85%.
The 5 x 3.8-inch touchpad on the Envy is massive and does a great job of executing Windows 10 gestures, including three or four-fingered swipes and simple finger taps. The bottom corners of the touchpad are super clicky and responsive.

Tablet Or Laptop First
As we said, there is inevitably some compromise with these devices. Typically they will be better at being a laptop or a tablet but some do manage to sit somewhere in the middle.
Some are even designed first and foremost as a laptop, while others are first a tablet, a laptop second. So it depends on your priority as to which type will suit you best.
Which one is right for you depends hugely on what you want to do with it. Do you mainly want a laptop on which to do regular work but can also shapeshift into a tablet for the odd task? Or do you want a tablet which you can also do a bit of typing on when the need arises?

Distinction From Traditional Tablets And Laptops
2-in-1s fall in the category of hybrid or convertible tablets but are distinct in that they run a full-featured desktop operating system and have I/O ports typically found on laptops, such as USB and DisplayPort. The most prominent element is the keyboard that allows the 2-in-1 to provide the ergonomic typing experience of a laptop.
While 2-in-1s fall in a category distinct from laptops, they loosely parallel the traits of the Ultrabook device category, having light and thin chassis, power-efficient CPUs, and long battery lives. They are distinguished from traditional Ultrabooks by the inclusion of a touchscreen display and a concealable or detachable keyboard.
Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 Best Samsung Chromebook
Samsung is one of the more successful Chromebook makers, with a popular line of Chrome OS notebooks including one of our favorites, the Chromebook Pro. That lineup includes a close cousin of the Pro, the Chromebook Plus, which was recently updated to utilize a faster Intel CPU compared to the previous versions ARM processor.
With the reduced price of the Chromebook Plus V2 its a much more accessible option. It still maintains all the essentials that you could need for typical daily tasks. You should have no problem browsing the web, reading emails, video chatting, and watching streaming content.
A pleasant surprise was the included pen, that can be stored and easily taken out of the laptop itself, similar to a Samsung smartphone.

What Are The Best Sizes And Styles For 2
Now that hybrid devices are penetrating the market and dominating in sales, were seeing an explosion in the number of options available.
Your first decision should be whether to go with a detachable keyboard model or a unit with a 360 degree rotating hinge.
If you want the lightest laptop possible and only use the keyboard sparingly, a detachable unit is the way to go. For users who frequently switch back and forth between tablet mode and laptop mode, make absolutely certain you get the 360 degree flip version.
The best overall size for a hybrid device is a much more subjective choice, and you dont have any lack of options. From 10 17 inches, convertible laptops are available in a huge range of sizes.
For most users, sticking somewhere in the middle will be the best way to try out a hybrid notebook. 10 inch models frequently have overly small keyboard designs, while 15 to 17 inch screens may be too big to use the device effectively in tablet mode.
Because of their slim designs and smaller screen sizes, there will be a lot of overlap between 2-in-1 devices and ultrabooks. You may want to take a look at what lightweight laptops are up for grabs as well.
Finally, dont forget you can often choose between Windows 10 or the Chrome OS with hybrid machines. While you may be more familiar with Windows as an operating system, Chrome is worth checking out if you use web-based applications more than executable files.
Tech Specs: What To Look For In A 2
The rest of the specs for convertibles and detachable hybrids generally follow the same lines as more standard laptops and Windows 10 tablets, which means you’ll have to pay more if you want additional speed, fancier features, or a thinner, flashier design.
For example, a system with a fanless Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processor is likely to have excellent battery life and a very thin body. These chips are generally what you will find in detachables. That said, you should expect that these systems will be somewhat less powerful than comparably sized laptops or convertible 2-in-1s, as these low-power mobile processors are designed for cool, quiet operation more so than for blazing speed.
In contrast, a non-detachable 2-in-1 system is more likely to use a more powerful Intel Core i5 or Core i7 with a cooling fan and perhaps even a discrete graphics processor. It will likely be a thicker device, but you’ll have more power to do more-demanding media-creation work or heavy multitasking in the field. As with anything else when computer shopping, it’s all a game of trade-offs and compromises, and we’re here to help you decide which one is for you.

Advantages Of A Tablet
Compared to a 2-in-1, a standalone tablet has these advantages:
- Weight: Slate style tablets are typically lighter than 2-in-1s, so they’re a good choice for long periods of handheld or on-the-go use. Be sure to look at the specifications, as some very thin and light 2-in-1s are available today.
- Durability: This is a double-edged sword. A standalone tablet has fewer moving or external parts than a 2-in-1 , but the touch screen on a 2-in-1 sits within a sturdier laptop-style frame.
- Field use: Road warriors who initially choose a tablet for its manageability and portability are often happy to learn how many full office-style applications they can run, especially if the device is equipped with a stylus for data entry.
- Battery life: Unless the 2-in-1 youre considering has multiple batteries, a tablet will generally last longer unplugged, as its powering fewer components, rather than an entire 2-in-1 PC.

How We Test Laptops
We put 2-in-1 laptops through extensive benchmark testing both synthetic and real-world before they end up in the hands of our reviewers. We evaluate each aspect of the laptop, including its performance, battery life, display, speakers and heat management.
In our benchmark testing, we use a Klein K10 colorimeter to detect the brightness and sRGB color gamut of the laptop’s display. For performance testing, we run the laptop through a gauntlet of benchmarks, including Geekbench 4.3 and 5.0 and 3DMark professional graphics tests.
To determine real-world performance, we task the laptop to convert a 4K video to 1080p resolution and to duplicate a 4.97GB multimedia file. Our real-world graphics test is the Dirt 3 benchmark with medium settings at 1080p resolution. Gaming laptops go through an entire library of games at high settings to see how their discrete GPUs keep up.
We also run heat tests by playing a 15-minute full-screen video and measuring temperatures in different areas of the laptop. Last but not least, our battery test consists of continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. For MacBooks and premium Windows 10 laptops, a runtime of over 9 hours is considered a good result whereas gaming laptops and workstations that can stay powered for longer than 5 hours deserve praise.
These tests are complemented with extensive hands-on testing from our reviewers who critique everything from the laptop’s materials to the feel of its touchpad.
