When Is Dell Releasing New Laptops

Don't Miss

Pc Laptops Sale And Refresh Schedule

Best New DELL Laptops for 2022

The major PC manufacturers release new laptops at three times of year: back-to-school season , holiday season and spring . New models usually ship at the beginning or middle of these windows. However, the best deals tend to appear in July/August and November/December, which are the heart of the school and holiday shopping seasons. This year, we also expect to see better-than-average laptop deals from Amazon’s Prime Day, which is likely to be held July 16 based on leaks.

“There is a best time to buy notebooks, and it is exactly when you think it is, between the last week in July and the first three weeks in August, when the back-to-school merchandising frenzy is in full force,” said Analyst Stephen Baker, who studies laptop pricing and sales for the NPD Group, a market intelligence firm. He noted that this time frame applies to both Macs and PCs.

Not surprisingly, we’ve found that prices can be just as low if not lower at the end of the year, when consumers are busy buying gifts for family members or for themselves.

For example, the 12-inch MacBook debuted at $1,299.99 on Amazon in June 2018, but saw its first major price drop during Black Friday season of 2017, before shooting back up to its retail price of $1,299.99. As we enter the beginning phase of back-to-school season, the laptop dropped briefly to an all-time price low of $1,099.

New Processors For All

Running on Intels latest 10nm+ architecture, the brand new 11th-Gen Intel Core CPUs promise significant leaps over previous generations, while also delivering improved power efficiency and cooler running temps. This means better performance for video/photo editing, compiling code, and all your productivity needs.

Intel says that a 15% improvement in single-thread performance over its last-gen products gives its new flagship Tiger Lake H-Series processors the fastest single-core speeds of any laptop CPU. It also claims a 40% boost to multi-core performance over last-gen, which is good news for aggressive multitasking, or those who do heavy compiling or exporting tasks.

Graphics will get a significant bump over the 2020 models, with the now aging Nvidia GeForce 1650 Ti being given the boot in favor of the RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti graphics in the XPS 15. Meanwhile, the XPS 17 goes up to the RTX 3060.

This will bring huge gains to gaming and 3D rendering over previous models, along with added support for cutting-edge graphics techniques, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and DLSS . Other options include up to 64GB of RAM, fast SSD storage up to 4TB, and a large 87Whr battery.

The biggest internal change that the newest Dell XPS 13 has going for it is the introduction of 12th generation, 28-watt Intel Core processors. These new processors from Intel can handle up to 28W of power at once, which is nearly double the 15W capacity from the previous generation. More power on hand means the processor can handle more intense tasks in data manipulation or retrieval as well as in 3D graphics processing and video encoding.

We’ll see whether Intel’s newest processor can hold a candle up to Apple’s own first laptop processors the M1 Pro and the M1 Max in deeper testing.

Dell hasn’t mentioned how long the Dell XPS 13 Plus battery will last in terms of hours, but does brag about its Express Charge 2.0 technology that can restore 80% of battery life in under an hour.

It’s important to note that Dell’s memory and battery solutions this time are not changeable by the user, so RAM becomes a very important decision when buying this laptop. However, on a lighter note, Dell includes a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box to help ease you into using its just two USB-C ports.

Again, we’ll see how these seemingly unorthodox design decisions play out with full testing.

The Dell Xps 17 Vs Dell Xps 15

It’s not just two inches that separate the Dell XPS 15 and the Dell XPS 17, but you have to know where to look to find the differences. First of all, although you’ll be getting similar processor if you buy the entry level of both models, the performance is quite difference. The Dell XPS 17 outperforms its little brother when put to the test, and the reason is mainly thermal. That’s right – the XPS 17 sports a different cooling system to the XPS 15, and it makes all the difference.

The XPS 15 has a heat pipe cooling system, whereas the XPS 17 boasts a vapour chamber cooling system, and that means faster speeds for longer durations for the larger laptop. It also means that your high-intensity work will put less stress on the internal components of the XPS 17 over the long term, giving it a longer life.

As far as portability goes, things are a bit more similar. There’s a similar amount of ports, including two Type-C Thunderbolt ports, four USB 3.2 ports, and a headphone jack. The thin bezels on both means neither feel like their too big in your bag, and the general sleek design is a world away from the chunky designs of other laptops.

The Dell XSP 17 is a pound heavier than the 15, but its still super easy to carry around. Both keyboards are very similar, and very comfortable.

How To Know If You’re Getting A Good Deal

Whenever you find a laptop sale in December, August or April it can be hard to tell whether you’re actually getting a great price or just a slight discount off the MSRP, unless you know what the product normally sells for. There are a couple of ways to tell:

  • Use a price-history tool: A couple of sites track price changes over time so you can see if today’s price is really the lowest it has ever been at one particular retailer. Camelcamelcamel.com will show a price-history graph for most products on Amazon, while the Hover Hound Chrome extension does the same for Newegg.

However, we haven’t found a service that tracks the price history from other key services, such as Dell.com, Lenovo.com or Microsoft Store, all of which offer great prices. We’re also yet to find a tracker that shows the price of the same product across multiple retailers. So Amazon’s lowest price ever may still be higher than someone else’s.

  • Visit deal aggregators: Deal news sites keep an eye on pricing and call attention to the best deals in their posts. We maintain an up-to-date list of deals at Laptopmag.com, and you can also check out sites such as techbargains.com.
