How Much Is A Gaming Laptop

Razer Book 13 Review | The Best Ultraportable Laptop in 2021?

Gaming laptops tend to be more expensive than more general-purpose laptops because they generally include a dedicated graphics chip for better game visuals and frame rates. The cheapest options start at around $700, though you cant expect great performance at that level. Our favorite budget gaming laptop, the Dell G5 SE, can be found for under $1,000. There are some alternative budget laptops that we like, although youll struggle to find something thats great for gaming once you edge toward $500. On the higher end, you can end up spending well over $2,000 if you want the latest components and fastest screens.

Razer Blade 1: Price And Availability

The Razer Blade 14 is on sale now with prices starting at $1,800. The entry model is only available as it stands on Razer’s own store, but the higher-spec versions are available through third-party retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy.

The version with an RTX 3070 costs $2,200 and the range-topper with RTX 3080 costs $2,800.

Are Razer Laptops Worth It

Ask any Razer Blade laptop owner whether it’s worth it and you’ll probably get a resounding yes – they’re definitely a brand with a loyal, albeit niche following. That said, for the average gamer who just wants a machine that has a good performance to price ratio, they’re definitely a harder sell when it comes to value.

Let’s face it, you’re definitely paying extra for style points here as opposed to outright performance. That alone will put some off, however, for others it’s more than worth it considering how gaudy most gaming laptops are. Subsequently, you’ll probably have to weigh up how much that premium experience means to you when you’re choosing a product.

Razer laptops are, by all accounts, stunning machines with chassis’ that rival even the plushest ultrabooks from Apple and Dell. Other gaming brands, while catching up, definitely struggle to match them, and it’s a marvel that Razer can pack so much power into cases so thin. So, if you want something that looks great, runs well, and comes in a fairly light footprint, Razer laptops may just be worth that extra premium for you.

Razer’s less expensive take on the Blade Pro packs the premium build and many high-end features of its pricier sibling, but still costs more than the average GTX 1060 gaming laptop.

The gorgeous, well-built, all-metal Razer Blade Stealth, now with a slightly larger and still-brilliant screen, is one of the best premium ultraportable laptops, especially for less than $1,500.

Should I Worry About What The Cpu In A Gaming Laptop Is

Razer Blade 14 (2015) Review

That really depends on what you want to do with your laptop. An eight-core, 16-thread AMD Ryzen chip will allow you to do a whole load of productivity goodness on the road but honestly will have little benefit in gaming. That’s one of the reasons Intel has launched its Tiger Lake H35 chips they’re quad-core, eight-thread CPUs, but they’re clocked high to deliver high-end gaming performance when paired with something like the RTX 3070.

Upgradeability Of The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model

The Blade 15’s bottom cover is held on by 10 Torx screws . They’re tiny, so be sure to put them somewhere safe. After that, it comes off pretty simply with a pick.

Razer’s cooling apparatus is huge and uses a vapor chamber . But more important is that you can immediately access both sticks of RAM, the battery, Wi-Fi card and the SSD.In our system there’s a second slot to stack another SSD on top of the drive it comes with. That’s a great addition in a tight chassis to add more storage later on. It’s only available in Blades with an RTX 3070 or higher, however. The existing SSD has a heatsink on top of it, and is held in with three Phillips head screws, one of which uses a sticker that will let Razer know if it was replaced. There are similar stickers on the screw holding in the Wi-Fi card and on some holding in the cooling system.

Razer Blade 14 Review: A Great Thing Comes In A Small Package

Razer squeezes its signature style and power into a terrific gaming ultrabook, but the Blade 14 isnt cheap

Compact gaming laptops have come of age recently. This is mostly thanks to product engineers realising that they can just about squeeze an Nvidia RTX30-series GPU into a 14in ultrabook, and voilà: genuine gaming performance in a laptop smaller and lighter than many traditional notebooks.

Of course, that 14in display might be an issue to some who will say, and not without cause, that 14in is a little too small for prolonged gaming. But surely thats a bit like complaining that your two-door sports car doesnt have five doors its the nature of the beast.

The Razer Blade Stealth 13 Ultrabook sneaks into the fray with deceivingly impressive specs for its size and price

Razer’s entry-level offering, the Blade Stealth 13, is the worlds first gaming Ultrabook. Its impressively compact design somehow crams enough power to handle most modern games with decent graphics settings, but it’s not going to give you desktop levels of performance any time soon.

That said, the Razer Blade Stealth 13 is a great entry point to gaming laptops for anyone in need of a solid machine on the go. This bad boy often goes on sale fairly cheap too, so keep an eye out for some surprisingly cheap Razer Blade Stealth 13 gaming laptop deals below.

Beastly Performance For Work And Play But The Battery Life Isnt Great

The Perfect Razer Blade Gaming Laptop!

Dont let its slim, unassuming looks fool you the Razer Blade 15 Advanced is a beast when it comes to performance. Inside a frame thats just over a half an inch thick is Nvidias RTX 3080 graphics processor and an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 chip with 32GB of RAM. All of this combines for a machine that can tear through the latest blockbuster PC games while packing plenty of muscle for serious multitasking.

We had a blast playing games on Razers laptop, which managed to run Marvels Avengers at 90 to 110 fps at high settings even as enemies and explosions flooded New York City. When we tried to push the Blade 15 to its limits and cranked the graphics up to very high, we still got a highly fluid and playable 60 to 70 fps.

We enjoyed a similar level of performance when playing titles like Dirt 5 and an early preview of Halo Infinite. When running the in-game benchmark for Shadow of the Tomb Raider an intensive, cinematic action game the Blade 15 turned in well over 100 fps, eclipsing every gaming laptop weve tested so far in the process. Even more impressive is that Razers notebook stayed relatively quiet throughout long, demanding gaming sessions. However, the laptops underside can get quite hot while running games, so we recommend using it on a desk whenever you can.

Razer Blade 14 Review: What You Need To Know

If Id had to place a bet on which hardware manufacturer would cook up the best RTX30-series compact gaming laptop, my money would have gone on Razer. It pretty much invented the category with the original Blade 14 back in 2015, though of course, that machine was nowhere near as compact as this 2021 model.

Razer is a doyen of serious gaming kit, from laptops and desktops to monitors, eGPUs and chairs . There isnt a weak machine in the Blade 15 or Blade 17 lineup and its first assay into productivity, the Razer Book 13, was an impressive debut as well.

What Razer has done with the Blade 14 is take all its gaming laptop know-how and stuffed the latest AMD and Nvidia chippery into a compact notebook that you can comfortably throw into your backpack. Its also styled the Blade 14 in such a way that you wont be embarrassed to whip it out at an important business meeting.

Razer Blade 14 Review: Price And Competition

The Blade 14 starts at £1,800 for a machine with an RTX 3060 GPU and a 144Hz FHD display, ending at £2,800 with an RTX 3080 and a 165Hz QHD display. In between those two sits a £2,200 model, which uses the same display as the top-end version but has a slightly weaker RTX 3070.

All models share the same AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. In my view, the RTX 3070 model is the best value of the lot, but its the top-of-the-range machine that Razer sent me for review.

The marketplace is hardly awash with 14in gaming laptops, but what competition there is can only be described as fierce. Acers Predator Triton 300SE is impressive value for money at just £1,299 and this gets you an Nvidia RTX 3060, a 144Hz 14in display and an Intel Core i7-11370H processor.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has been widely praised by every technology hack and their mother-in-law, and rightly so. Ive only crossed paths with its big brother, the ROG Zephyrus G15, but that is a truly superb machine. For £1,799 you can get a G14 with an RTX 3060, 120Hz QHD display and an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor.

If a 14in notebook is just too cumbersome for you, then the Razer Blade Stealth 13 could be worth a look. The 4K, 13.3in screen is super-sharp and at less than 1.5kg its a genuine lightweight, but in a good way.

How Is The Thunderbolt 4 Port In The Razer Book 13 Different From The Thunderbolt 3 Port

While a majority of specs, including the 40Gbps data transfer speeds, are the same, Thunderbolt 4 actually doubles the speeds allocated for the PCIe connections. Thunderbolt 3 speed limits were 16Gbps whereas Thunderbolt 4 ensures 32Gbps of the same for PCIe connections. Besides, the minimum PC video requirements for the Thunderbolt 4 technology, scale up to 2 4K displays.

Productivity Performance On The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model

With Intel’s Core i7-11800H, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, the Blade 15, on paper, has the specs to be a strong productivity machine, not just a gaming one. While in my fairly simple use cases, it did just fine, we noticed a pattern of lower scores in some cases.

On Geekbench 5, the Blade 15 notched a single-core score of 1,509 and a multi-core score of 6,243. While that single-core score is second to only the Alienware x15 , it was the lowest of all of the multi-core scores in the test group, with the highest being the Alienare while the next lowest was the Legion 5 Pro .

On our file transfer test, in which we have machines copy about 25GB of data, the Blade hit a rate of 979.96 MBps, beating the Razer Blade 14 and the rest of the field, which was slower. In comparison, the Alienware x15 was sluggish at a meager 506.27 MBps.

The Razer fell behind on Handbrake, taking 8 minutes and 42 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p. Every other laptop was at least a minute faster, with the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro leading the pack at 7:06.

One Of The Smoothest Laptop Displays Out There

Part of what puts the Advanced in the Razer Blade 15 Advanced is its display, which delivers great brightness and color but really stands out by being one of the most responsive you can find on a gaming laptop right now. This is one of the few notebook displays with a refresh rate of 360 Hz the higher that number, the more fluidly games and apps can run. Most gaming laptops weve tested max out around 165 Hz. As a result, the Blade 15 Advanced can run games at a level of maximum smoothness that many competitors cant match.

Running and gunning in the colorful world of Fortnite felt incredibly fluid on the Blade 15, which ran the game at upward of 200 to 300 frames per second once we tweaked some settings. Its worth noting that youre only going to get these kinds of frame rates on less demanding games with the graphics not fully cranked up these kinds of displays are largely geared toward competitive players who value smoothness and precision rather than overall fidelity.

Buttery smoothness aside, the Razer Blade 15 Advanceds display just looks great. Colors had a bold and bright pop to them, from the candy green of the truck we drove recklessly in Dirt 5 to the lightning-blue arrows we shot out of Hawkeyes bow in Marvels Avengers.
